Thank you again. Do you know whether or not there are any active efforts in any of those regions to harmonise the periods (in other words change it to 24 months in the APNIC region, or to 12 months in the ARIN region)?
APNIC-Prop-104 is under consideration at APNIC as we speak, and would move APNIC to 24-months.

ARIN-2011-12 was implemented in February, please note that 36-months was also discussed during that process and another proposal ARIN-prop-176 pushed from 60-months. So, I don't believe ARIN returning to 12-months is a realistic expectation, personally I see ARIN either remaining at 24 months or maybe going to 36 months if justified after additional experience with transfers.

Thank you for these pointers. So the current ARIN period is no doubt 24 months, and the APNIC prop-104 page says its status is «reached consensus at APNIC 34». I guess this means, then, that 24 months is the single best value to change the "alloc-transfer-need-period" to in the RIPE region in order to best harmonise our policy with the other regions, at least for now. Ok, I'm sold. Harmony between the regions is a good ting. So, on the condition that the new policy text is made clearer, support. -- Tore Anderson Redpill Linpro AS - http://www.redpill-linpro.com/
