In summary: we do not have the technology which would allow a very liberal PI allocation policy, therefore a very liberal PI allocation policy is not possible now.
Strict limits must be kept.
I get the impression that people are talking about something which lies somewhere between "very liberal" and "strict limits".
Indeed, and to stress a point that Mikael has already made: even with that change, it's still not "single click" easy to get PIv6. PIv6 still needs application forms to be filled, a contract to be signed, and yearly fees to be paid - which shifts the balance somewhat away from "PIv6 is the easy way" (but if people have appropriate usage scenarios, it's still *possible* to get PIv6). Gert Doering -- NetMaster -- have you enabled IPv6 on something today...? SpaceNet AG Vorstand: Sebastian v. Bomhard Joseph-Dollinger-Bogen 14 Aufsichtsratsvors.: A.
