So what you are saying is that _I_ want address portability and _you_ have to buy new routers.
Why does inter-AS routing have to be done on the packet-forwarding gateways commonly called "routers"? If routing was done on boxes separate from the packet-forwarding gateways, it would be possible to handle much larger routing tables at much lower cost. The internal architecture of current routers has basically arrived at this solution already except that you are tied to the router manufacturer's hardware and pricelist. --Michael Dillon
