Maybe in some ways, but there are many arguments in favor of making it last as long as possible too. This thread and similar threads on just about any ip-ops list show that far from everybody agree that there is a complete alternative to v4 yet. Remember, IPv6 and promises about scalable routing was once (mid 90s) one of the last nails in GOSIP's (and it's various national variations') coffin.
