A reality check and a question...
I am wondering how German Citizens are dealing with the fact that *many* Hotels and other accomodation businesses *require* to take a copy of an official ID Document, in many cases due to local regulations to establish and track identity of travellers?
If a hotel wants to copy my ID I demand them to destroy it and to only check their form against the data in my ID. On more and more occasions I have a BDSG ยง5 compliant copy with me they can keep. Which is a photocopy but with data blacked out they don't need. -dominik
