Invitation to join open consultation on internet security

Dear colleagues, One of the fastest ways to achieve a higher level of internet and ICT security may be through buying secure by design, but do governments and companies do so? This is what IS3C tries to establish. This is the background: The Internet Governance Forum Dynamic Coalition on Internet Standards, Security and Safety will publish its report at the upcoming IGF in Kyoto. It's draft report aims to document existing policy requirements for public sector procurement contracts and supply chain management of digital technologies and asks whether security-related technical internet standards and ICT best practices are mentioned. It highlights emerging best practice and gaps in an effort to provide high-level guidance at the global level on how procurement plays a role in improving the security and safety of the global internet for all. We close with discussion and suggestions for future work. The document’s current status is open to feedback. We invite you to join this open consultation and share your views and to share links to policy documents, public or private on this topic not mentioned in the report. The deadline is Friday 25 August, 24.00 UTC. ICANN and Others Upset Again

ICANN, ARIN and APNIC seem to be upset with the UN: https://www.icann.org/en/blogs/details/the-global-digital-compact-a-top-dow… What’s notable is the absence of any of the other RIRs, which leads me to think that they probably don’t support the position taken. Good day, colleagues, In answer to Michele's question. The only difference I can think of, is that many people did not want/were not allowed to travel to Ethiopia due to the political/safety situation or a combination of both. As sessions can be organised in a hybrid fashion, this may not explain a doubling of proposals in one year. Thus I tend to agree with Chris, as a lot of attention is pulled towards internet governance because of the U.N. deliberations and the fear of a government takeover of internet governance, which may become a reality in 2025. The more reason to work hard at proving/showing the added value and effectiveness of the multistakeholder model and I mean this in the broadest sense, not just the IGF. That is up to all of us.... Dear colleagues, Just a quick update to alert you that the draft schedule of this year’s IGF (taking place from 8-12 October in Kyoto, Japan, and online) has been published: https://intgovforum.org/en/filedepot_download/290/26092 This is the most tightly-packed IGF schedule ever (which is saying something!), and features a mix of workshops, Open Forums and Town Halls (generally sessions prepared by international or inter-governmental organisations), lightning talks, and main sessions. It’s worth noting that the number of workshop proposals received this year (398 in total) was nearly double the number received last year (a significant increase was also recorded for other session types), so whittling down to the final selection was a challenge.
