Dear Colleagues, Because of a very high level of use this afternoon, the response time of <auto-dbm(a)ripe.net> is longer than normal. I have made contact with those who are responsible and I expect the situation to improve as the machine works through the queue. Please be patient. Obviously we at the RIPE NCC Database Group are continuously working to make the performance of the database as good as possible. However, we cannot make improvements in zero time. We thank you for your co-operation up to now and we ask for your continued co-operation so that everyone receives the best possible service. Russian Whois Data Changes

Dear Colleagues We have been informed of changes to Russian telephone area codes. One of our Russian members has asked the RIPE NCC to perform a bulk update on the whois data to reflect these changes. The area codes change on 1 December 2005. If we receive no objections, we plan to make this update two weeks later, on 15 December 2005. If anyone changes the code in their own objects, it will not be affected by this update. SUMMARY: There is a problem with updating the Whois Database. AFFECTED: Anyone submitting an update to the Whois Database. DESCRIPTION: Since about 2:00 CET, there has been a problem with updating the Whois Database. The service has been stopped. We should be able to restart it shortly. Dear der Mouse I can understand your frustration at the apparent lack of response from the RIPE NCC in ensuring address space contacts in the Whois Database are accurate. The RIPE community decided that only the maintainers of objects in the database may make changes to data. The RIPE NCCs role is to implement this decision for the RIPE community. The RIPE Whois Database is a public database and therefore, although we (the RIPE NCC) aid in its operation, we are not responsible for its content. The RIPE community develops and sets policies through an open, bottom-up process of discussion and consensus-based decision making.
