Yes, we are aware of that. But simply for timing reasons we felt it would be easier to try to "decouple" the short-term need for updating the DB-SW documentation from the more general suggestion like you have provided; which may take quite a while to agree on (in details) and to implement.
it may be helpful if I mention that what WW and Jos are suggesting looks both simpler and like it might achieve what seems to be needed.
