That would certainly be more helpful than the present state of affairs, within which the IANA WHOIS server is not merely failing to give out correct referrals, but is actually giving out demonstratably incorrect referrals. Functionally and operationally, the portion of the IANA WHOIS service that provides referrals for IP addresses is, at present, worse than useless due to the innumerable incorrect referrals it provides. If IANA does not wish to correct that, then they should at least configure the thing so that it will stop providing *any* responses at all when queried about IP addresses. That way, naive users will not be lulled into the false believe that it provides correct referrals in response to such queries, only to find out later on that it often does not. Regards, rfg
