Merging RIPE DB CLNS object (and IPng) into ripe-81++ ?
Hi all, Henk Steenman and Susan Hares are working on a proposal for 'CLNS routing-domain object for the RIPE database'. One of the aim of this proposal is to be as close to the ripe-81++ objects as possible. Now, instead of defining a new set of objects I have the following proposal: Network protocol address prefixes and hosts should be prefixed by a two character protocol identifier. For the current IP networks: IP192.87.45.0/24 For CLNS networks: NS39.756f.1111/40 Autonomous numbers (AS): AS1104 (already defined in rip-81++) Routing Domain Identifier: RD39.528f.1103 To prefix numbers would also simplify any transitions to IPng and allow the usage of the RIPE database also for other network protocols. Due to CIDR IP & NSAP network numbers are both classless and are prefixed by a number of bits. Maybe someone has a better idea about prefixes to use. I just made them equal to the already defined AS number prefix ('AS'). The following attributes from ripe-81++ would get a more general 'touch': attribute object ------------------------------- route route origin route component route inetnum inetnum New objects needed for CLNS: rdi Routing Domain Identifier (comparable to aut-num object) (maybe even these objects could be merged, especially because AS numbers can be mapped into RDI's in IDRP) rd-macro Equal to 'as-macro' object, for IDRP RDI's. Any comments ? Kind regards, Marcel IP network prefixes and IP host addresses should be prefixed by 'IP' and any other network protocol Existing ripe-81++ objects: --------------------------- aut-num community as-macro route -- e-mail: wiget@chx400.switch.ch \|/ Swiss Academic and Research Network phone : +41 1 268 15 30 | SWITCH, Marcel Wiget fax : +41 1 268 15 68 hb9rwm CH-8001 Zurich, Limmatquai 138
