NWI-10 Populating End User Organisation Country Attribute
Dear colleagues, As I mentioned in the Operational Update during the DB-WG session at RIPE85 last week (slide 16): https://ripe85.ripe.net/wp-content/uploads/presentations/111-DB-WG-Operation... *today* the DB team will populate the "country:" attribute in approximately 20K organisation objects in the RIPE database. This will be done for end user organisations with resources allocated or assigned by the RIPE NCC, with the country code value where the resource holder is legally based. We are continuing work internally on the remaining end user organisations without a country code, and software changes for synchronisation during resource requests. Regards Ed Shryane RIPE NCC
Dear colleagues, This change is now completed. Regards Ed Shryane RIPE NCC

Hi Ed, I noticed that my personal org object got updated but I didn't get a notification email to the mnt-nfy email (on the maintainer that has mnt-by), was this intentional? If it was intentional it is not a huge issue, but I would prefer getting notifications for all edits (including this one). If it was not intentional, then I guess consider this a bug report. -Cynthia On Mon, Oct 31, 2022 at 4:54 PM Edward Shryane via db-wg <db-wg@ripe.net> wrote:

Same, I did not receive a notification, Notifications are _mandatory_ for all changes, period. Always, always, always send a notification for changes, even by RIPE NCC. Hello, +1 on my side. Especially when changes are not done through our own usual maintainer, I expect to get a notification. Let us know why we didn't, please ! Thanks, Clément Cavadore On Mon, 2022-10-31 at 19:42 +0100, Peter Hessler via db-wg wrote:

The country code is taken from the legal address of the organisation. Please let me know directly which organisation and I will investigate further. Regards Ed Shryane RIPE NCC
Dear colleagues, Thanks for your feedback. I wasn't clear in my email yesterday that we didn't send notifications when updating the organisations. When so many objects are updated, the RIPE NCC receives a lot of tickets with queries in response, and I wanted to avoid additional workload for staff. However it is clear a general email to the DB-WG was not sufficient notification. I will rectify this by re-running the job to send notifications to affected users. Also in future we will send notifications for all database updates. Regards Ed Shryane RIPE NCC

The RIPE NCC has now completed country code data for all end user organisations with resources allocated or assigned by the RIPE NCC. Accordingly, the DB team will *today* populate the "country:" attribute for the remaining 59 end user organisation objects without country code in the RIPE database, and will also notify all affected users by email. Separately, we have completed software changes for synchronisation during resource requests. Regards Ed Shryane RIPE NCC
