Ripe 66: Agenda Items sought

All, It is that time of the year again. There will be a Ripe meeting in Dublin this time (<https://ripe66.ripe.net/>) and the DNS Working group is scheduled to meet Wednesday May 15th in the slots just before and after lunch. We are looking for agenda items. Given the discussions on various lists some subjects such as - DNSSEC validation experiences (Comcast, Google) - Root key rollover issues - (DNS) response rate issues - new gTLDs seem to have the interest of various people. So in case you want to share your experience with you colleges, do send us proposals for agenda items. Note the subjects in list above is are only examples. If there are other things to discuss, do send in a proposal. Remember, this your Working Group and you meeting, we are here only to serve you. jaap (stuckee for the agenda)

DNS OARC Spring 2013 Workshop - Dublin, 12th/13th May

OARC's 2013 Spring Workshop will be held on Sunday 12th, and the morning of Monday 13th May 2013, in Dublin Ireland, at the same location as, and immediately prior to the RIPE66 meeting. Call for Presentations ----------------------- We are soliciting presentations in all areas of DNS-OARC's "Operations, Analysis, and Research" mission. Topics in the past have included DNSSEC deployment and troubleshooting, analyses of new threats, tools for improved operations, and research into stability and performance of large and complex DNS installations. This workshop continues OARC's tradition of having spring meetings include a strong operational component. Presentations from DNS operators are particularly welcome. We'll also gladly accept talks from DNS researchers, as well as any other DNS-related subjects. New on RIPE Labs: Conclusions Drawn from Reverse DNS Event

Dear colleagues, On Wednesday 13 June 2012, an unknown error caused the removal of several zone files from the configuration of our reverse DNS provisioning system. Following up from the initial report published on RIPE Labs, we further analysed what caused the incident and implemented a number of procedures to decrease the likelihood of this happening in the future. [This message has been mailed to several lists, apologies for duplicates] Dear Perl DNS programmers, NLnet Labs has been maintaining the perl Net::DNS and Net::DNS::SEC packages for more then seven years. Traditionally people who wanted to discuss Net::DNS used RT at cpan or directly mailed the maintainer(s). While Net::DNS and Net::DNS::SEC are libraries that are supported by NLnet Labs, they also benefit from significant community contribution and collaboration. Until now, there was no official platform for Net::DNS users to talk to each other and share experiences. About time to set this up; ie. a mailing-list for Net::DNS users. Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2012 17:54:41 -0500 From: Jason Castonguay <castongj(a)umd.edu> To: <castongj(a)umd.edu> Advisory ? D-root is changing its IPv4 address on the 3rd of January. This is advance notice that there is a scheduled change to the IPv4 address for one of the authorities listed for the DNS root zone and the .ARPA TLD. The change is to D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET, which is administered by the University of Maryland. The new IPv4 address for this authority is 199.7.91.13 The current IPv6 address for this authority is 2001:500:2d::d and it will continue to remain unchanged. This change is anticipated to be implemented in the root zone on 3 January 2013, however the new address is currently operational. It will replace the previous IP address of 128.8.10.90 (also once known as TERP.UMD.EDU). We encourage operators of DNS infrastructure to update any references to the old IP address, and replace it with the new address. In particular, many DNS resolvers have a DNS root ?hints? file. This should be updated with the new IP address. New hints files will be available at the following URLs once the change has been formally executed: http://www.internic.net/domain/named.root http://www.internic.net/domain/named.cache The old address will continue to work for at least six months after the transition, but will ultimately be retired from service.
