We have to remember that a lot of networks use only v4 PI, as this is the model typically deployed by end sites who rely on multihoming for performance or reliability reasons. Unless and until 2006-01 becomes approved, there is no migration path to v6 for these networks. We must ratify 2006-01 in order to strengthen the impact of the publication of this resolution.
Even if these networks might not be able to deploy IPv6 today in the way they are used to doing IPv4, they already can make a difference - by making sure that all gear and software they buy is ready for IPv6. Which will make the transition much easier later on... (But your point is taken. We're working on the generic PI framework, and as soon as that is in place, 2006-01 will be adapted accordingly and re-circulated) Gert Doering -- APWG chair -- Total number of prefixes smaller than registry allocations: 122119 SpaceNet AG Vorstand: Sebastian v.
