Fwd: questions regarding IPv6
Hi there, Can you please help me with the following questions on IPv6? I tried to contact David, but my e-mail was bounced. You'll find this e-mail below. Thanks in advance, Anneke Laverman ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Anneke Laverman <amlaverman@gmail.com> Date: Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 1:22 PM Subject: questions regarding IPv6 To: kessens@nsn.com Hi David, I have been reading a lot about IPv6 on internet. Then i discovered the RIPE website. There's a lot more for me to read now. I am actually writing an article about IPv6 and i am trying to get a grip. I still have a lot of questions regarding the status of the transition and regarding the costs of implementing IPv6. Can you please help me on that part? Do you perhaps have a presentation that includes costs? I understand that the goal of RIPE regarding IPv6 is that by the end of this year an ipv6-only client is able to use all services offered by the RIPE NCC. I read this in the presentation of Mr Andrei Robachevsky. How large is this transition and what does it cost RIPE? How did Korea and Japan manage to implement IPv6, as i read in computable? Can you please give me some information? Or can you give me the name of the person(s) i need for answering these questions? Thanks a lot! Anneke Laverman
Hi, currently we are connected to APNIC ipv6 network ( tunneling over v4) . Is this sufficient to test/reach all currently online ipv6 networks ? In the sense that connecting to a v4 network gives you access to all on-line v4 networks [1], yes, but less so. The less pedantic answer is "yes". Joe [1] i.e. as far as most people care, probably, but not really, or alternatively maybe, depending on what you mean by "on-line".
Hi Joe, Online to me means , publicly accessible ipv6 networks . Right, so as I said the non-pedantic (in other words, the useful answer) is something like "yes". My annoying twittering is simply in recognition of the fact that the Internet is a seething post-organic mass, and any question which assumes it is consistent, simple or static is going to yield unsatisfyingly complicated answers, sooner or later. I am not sure where you got the below mail address from as it is definitely not my mail address. One of the simplest and easiest ways to get a better understanding about IPv6 is to start by reading a book on IPv6 first. David Kessens ---
