2001:4200::/32, 2001:4308::/32, 2001:4310::/32 AFRINIC, ARIN or RIPE?
According to IANA: http://www.iana.org/assignments/ipv6-unicast-address-assignments They are ARIN space. According to ARIN(*1) it is RIPE space. According to RIPE, it is AFRINIC. What needs to be fixed here? The IANA allocs or something else? Also it would be nice of course if ARIN directly pointed to AFRINIC instead of making AFRINIC the little sister of RIPE. 2001:970::/32 and 2001:4300::/32 are also AFRINIC now, before they where from the RIPE region, but the IANA file doesn't reflect this. The delegated-afrinic-latest indicates AFRINIC now, which is a bit odd. ARIN, APNIC and RIPE NCC all made IPv6 allocations to networks operating from Africa from 2001:4200::/23. This was to minimise the fragmentation of the authoritative registration data, when AfriNIC was started. I think a couple of records need to be updated.
2001:970::/32 and ::/32 are also AFRINIC now, before they where from the RIPE region, but the IANA file doesn't reflect this. The delegated-afrinic-latest indicates AFRINIC now, which is a bit odd.
In 2002, we allocated 2001:970::/32 to a network operating out of Tunisia. At that time, the RIPE NCC provided registration services in African countries north of the equator. The registration for this network was transferred to AfriNIC earlier this year, when AfriNIC started operations. Rather than ask network operators to update information in two databases, we transferred the registration data to the AfriNIC Whois Database. The record in the RIPE Whois Database reflects this change. inet6num: 2001:0970::/32 org: ORG-AFNC1-RIPE netname: AFRINIC-NET-TRANSFERRED-20050223 descr: This network has been transferred to AFRINIC remarks: These IP addresses are assigned in the AFRINIC region. remarks: Authoritative registration information for this network remarks: is available for query and modification in remarks: the AFRINIC whois database: whois.afrinic.net or remarks: web site: http://www.afrinic.net remarks: The routing registry information (route(6) objects) remarks: may be published in any Routing Registry, including remarks: RIPE Whois Database country: EU # country is somewhere in African Region admin-c: AFRI-RIPE tech-c: AFRI-RIPE status: ALLOCATED-BY-RIR mnt-by: RIPE-NCC-HM-MNT mnt-routes: RIPE-NCC-RPSL-MNT changed: hostmaster@ripe.net 20050223 source: RIPE I hope this explains the situation.
