suggestions for atlas service

Hi Here are my few suggestions for Atlas service Suggestion1: It would be nice to have groups of Atlas probes which make measurement against them? A requirment may be to have public ip addresses assigned to the probes and you may suggest all the necessary firewall openings to make them reachable. If possible, it would also be nice to have an area in your portal to see only those probes. Suggestion2: It would be nice to have the possibility to set alarms or threshold associated to given probes, so to have the Atlas portal send warning email. Sugestion3: Send weekly or monthly reports by email about the stats collected by selected probes. cheers Edoardo

Darren said most features of the product are v6 capable now, but there isn't much data, either because providers are not using the product for v6 or there are related bugs. Home Network Monitoring - Renata Teixeira Renata’s presentation is available at: http://ripe62.ripe.net/presentations/182-teixeira-ripe-may2011.pdf Robert Kisteleki, RIPE NCC, said he was going to run it at home and compare the results to RIPE Atlas Lorenz Colitti, Google, asked if the tool could detect broken IPv6 connectivity at the home, to help prepare people for IPv6 day. Renata said the required measurements are taken, but no analysis is yet done. Ingvar Mattsson, Google, asked if the slowness seen by Genouille might be related to the buffer bloat problem. Renata replied that the netalyzer tool included in the profiler collects the relevant performance data and they also model the gateways with UPnP, so hopefully the analysis can be run later. Daniel Karrenberg, RIPE NCC, gave some encouragement and asked for periodic status reports on the MAT-WG mailing list. He also mentioned how the results are relevant to Atlas measurements and a possible future Atlas-like switch could sit between the router and the modem to get less biased results. E. Lorenzo said they expect to see packet loss for the 6to4 return path instead of latency changes. Lorenzo suggested trying to emulate the behavior of desktop OSes in addition to measuring them separately. For example, if you attempt first v6, then v4, you may experience a latency spike. Geoff Huston, APNIC, commented that the tools are concentrated on the end client, but content providers would like to know if their stuff would work before they turn it on. So at APNIC they twisted the tool around to allow content providers to do it. G. Hi Two suggestions: 1. Some looking-glass from the probe. Simpe ping/traceroute from the probe triggered from the web interface could be nice. 2. Better probe location display. Currently I host two probes, both 10cm one from each other, put into two different ASes. When I have put exactly the same geo data, the "display" mechanism put one of it onto the other one. Some suggestions for stat.ripe.net

Hi! I think that this is a great project! It has a nice interface and is very useful to get an "one page" info for everything. Excelent work! I have a few sugestions for the new system that I think can improve the value of this project: * Add an input field for each box, so the owner of the resource (or maybe anyone, I haven't think this too hard) can add more info about that particular item (ie: on geolocation, add the "true" location, on assignments within allocation - well, it's obvious :-P) * On the visibility test, when you get a "!" and a porcentage (let's say, 80%) it would be great to know if there was 80% of the probes over there that wasn't able to "see" the resource, or if 80% of the time was not visible, or if 80% of the times failed to check. Anyhow, I think it would be great to know more about this topic. If something failed, the hour of the fail, or the route to get to that resource. * Can you add a new box for do some kind of lookinglass over the resource from different locations/peers? that would be awesome! When i have to test some anycast cloud, i have to fly all over the looking glass that i can find, and then do my own analysis. FW: IP Address utilization of The LIRs

Dear all, There was a question probably from Daniel that he asked what LIR want to see on stats web page. As a LIR, I want to see IP address utilization for my AS when I query my AS from stat web site. It would be very nice if we get this information per prefix level. I think we can achieve this using netflow (without using confidential information) information. We can tell each LIR to send netflow data (only source,destination address and AS information. No protocol,port & traffic information to avoid confidential data) to distributed RIPE netflow servers. In the MAT-GW presentation, Arbor Atlas presented that they are getting hourly data from 129 different provider. I think we can use this information as well to find exact utilization of the IP Address space of each AS. I'm looking forward to go for IPv6 in my network as well but there is fact that most of the network, access devices doesn't support IPv6 yet. So there is still big demand for IPv4 and I'm sure we have some LIR that they are less than %50 utilization of IP Address. We can take this IPs from these LIRs if they don't have a plan to use this addresses recently and give it to LIRs which they are really need this. This will more give a time to world to move IPv6. Hi, I had an idea today morning of what would really interest me: Yesterday there was a short discussion if route-flap-dampening is good or bad or ... If I intend to implement route-flap-dampening it would be nice, if I would be able to know in advance, how my configuration of route-flap dampening would have acted in the past. So: - Enter a prefix - enter parameters for route-flap-dampening - press start Then RIS makes an analysis of the "bgp-history" of the prefix and gets as result if and from when to when your prefix would have been dampened according to the parameters of flap-dampening you entered at start. So you get the probability to play around _before_ eventually configuring route-flap-dampening.
