Dear RIPE NCC members, The Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2015 is now available for your review (PDF): https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/ncc/gm/november-2014/draft-ripe-ncc-activ… The Draft Activity Plan and Budget is the clearest way that RIPE NCC members can learn about, comment on and ultimately shape the direction that the RIPE NCC will take in the coming year. The Draft Activity Plan and Budget has “activity status” categories that show which activities are new, which are expanding and which are scaling back. By publishing the draft document now, the RIPE NCC membership has six weeks until the General Meeting (GM) on 5 November 2014 to review and discuss the contents of the document. Further discussion will take place at the GM. We ask that you read the document and provide feedback on the members-discuss mailing list <members-discuss(a)ripe.net>. The Executive Board will take note of all feedback and discussions regarding the Activity Plan and Budget before publishing a final version in December 2014. Dear RIPE NCC members, On behalf of the RIPE NCC Executive Board, I would like to invite you to register for the RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) November 2014. The GM will be held on Wednesday, 5 November from 16:00-20:00 UTC at the Novotel London West Hotel in London, adjacent to the RIPE 69 Meeting, which runs from 3-7 November. The GM begins with presentation of the reports from the RIPE NCC in the RIPE NCC Services Working Group at 16:00. The formal, members-only section of the GM starts immediately after the RIPE NCC Services Working Group session. In order to register, you must be listed as an contact person for your organisation in the LIR Portal. This new registration process provides greater security for members, allows attendance and electronic voting registration to be carried out in one quick process, and allows members to more clearly see their voting status. Electronic Voting Registration ------------------------------ All organisations that have been members of the RIPE NCC longer than six months will receive an invitation to vote electronically. You can register to vote electronically from the GM Preferences page in the My LIR section in the LIR Portal: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/ncc/gm/november-2014/gm-registration Those who choose to vote electronically will receive an email on 5 November with a link to the voting pages from the independent third party BigPulse, who we contract to carry out the voting. Extended Voting Window ---------------------- Following discussion on the members-discuss mailing list, the Executive Board has decided to extend the timeframe in which it is possible to vote electronically. Registration for electronic voting will remain open until 18:00 UTC on the day of the GM, 5 November 2014. The window for casting electronic votes will remain open until Friday, 7 November at 09:00 UTC. The Executive Board hopes that members will take advantage of the extended registration period and voting window by participating in the voting at the GM. Proxy Voting ------------ You can be represented by a third party who is not an authorised employee or director of your organisation. If you wish to do this, please fill out the proxy form and send it to us using the details on the form by 22 October 2014. Any proxy sent to us after this date will not be valid. Dear colleagues, The ENOG 8/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting took place on 9 September in Baku, Azerbaijan. A total of 109 attendees from 17 countries participated in the meeting, including 43 from the host country. The meeting included a wide variety of presentations on technical topics, from regional interconnection to routing resiliency, as well as broader topics such as Internet governance. [news] RIPE NCC Survey 2013 - Key Findings and Results

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Survey 2013 collected feedback from more than 3,600 of our members and stakeholders across 75 of the 76 countries in our service region. The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) analysed the survey data and produced a list of 48 key findings, which we published in November 2013. The RIPE NCC examined these findings, took action on them where appropriate and produced a report on these actions. The RIPE NCC Survey 2013 Key Findings and Results document is now available: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/member-support/info/surveys/ripe-ncc-surv… By publishing this document, we aim to increase transparency around the actions taken by the RIPE NCC as a result of the survey. While all of the key findings were addressed and much progress has been made, there are still areas that can be further improved. The RIPE NCC will continue to explore ways of improving the services we provide to our membership and to the RIPE community. If you would like to comment on the findings and actions, or on the document itself, please let us know at <feedback(a)ripe.net>. In November 2014, the RIPE NCC will carry out a number of lightweight focus groups around our service region to look at the RIPE NCC's progress and identify areas for further action. A report will be produced following these focus group sessions and will be shared with the membership. The RIPE NCC aims to survey its members and stakeholders every three years. You are welcome to send your findings anonymously and use our public PGP key to encrypt the information you send us. Where major security issues are discovered and resolved, we will publish a report on ripe.net explaining the vulnerability discovered and the measure(s) taken to fix it. [news] RIPE NCC Receives Allocation from IANA's Recovered IPv4 Pool

Dear colleagues, Yesterday, on 2 September 2014, the RIPE NCC and other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated a /12 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The RIPE NCC was allocated the IPv4 address range 45.80.0.0/12 and we are currently adding this to our available pool. Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. You can read the global policy here: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/policy/global-addressing/allocation-ipv4-… With the current policy in place, the RIPE NCC will receive one-fifth of any recovered addresses in the pool every six months (every March and September). The RIPE NCC will continue to distribute these according to the current last /8 policy, under which Local Internet Registries may receive a one-time /22 allocation (1,024 addresses). It is important that network operators continue to deploy IPv6 on their networks to ensure the future growth of the Internet.
