Dear RIPE NCC members, There is one week left to register for the RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM), which takes place from Wednesday, 19 May at 18:00 (UTC+2). *Registration for the GM closes at 16:00 (UTC+2) on Wednesday, 19 May.* You can register at: https://my.ripe.net/#/meetings/active Over 1,100 members have registered to vote, and we hope to see this number increase before the GM opens. Members who register for the GM will receive links to participate and vote remotely on 19 May. At this GM, you can vote on three resolutions, including the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2022. [GM] Executive Board Engagement for the Upcoming General Meeting

Dear members, The RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) takes place next week. The agenda is finalised and you can see that here: https://www.ripe.net/gm/may-2021/agenda As always, the GM is a good opportunity for us to hear from you on important issues. It also gives you the chance to ask the Board about issues that matter. And for this GM, there are also several ways to interact with those standing for election to become Board members. *Open Mic Slot* The GM agenda now includes a specific open mic slot, during which you can ask questions or share comments on topics not covered elsewhere in the agenda. We feel this has been missed by members in recent years and by adding it we hope to accommodate any topics you wish to bring up. You can also send questions for the GM in advance to <agm(a)ripe.net> and we'll make sure to address them at the meeting. *Charging Scheme Discussion* We have also allotted time to discuss the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme model under Agenda point 7. With this discussion, we are again starting a conversation on the future of our charging model that we hope to continue after the GM and up to the next GM in November. Among the questions to consider ahead of this discussion: - What are the problems you see with the One LIR-One Fee model? - Should charging be based on resource-intensive requests? - Should there be an administration fee for transfers? - Should the sign-up fee be lower to allow easier entry to the market as independent network operators? - Should there be charging related to ASNs or IPv6? Of course, we would also like to see discussion on this topic on the <members-discuss(a)ripe.net> mailing list, which we follow closely. *Interact with Executive Board Candidates* Tomorrow, 12 May at 10:00 UTC, there will be a RIPE NCC Open House where the five candidates will be able to explain why they should be on the Board, and you can pose important questions for them. Dear colleagues, RACI provides funding for academics to present their research at events such as the RIPE Meeting and RIPE NCC regional meetings. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funds for this initiative for the year 2021 will instead be used to support research projects relevant to work carried out by the RIPE NCC. We invite universities and research institutes in the RIPE NCC service region to submit proposals to work on projects in these areas: - Apply machine learning and big data analytics to the collected routing data to identify and predict trends. - Apply and customise big data visualisation frameworks to the collected routing data to better display the data to users. [service] RPKI Route Origin Validation on RIPE NCC Network

Dear colleagues, On Monday, 19 April 2021 we will enable Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) Route Origin Validation (ROV) on our own network, AS3333, and reject RPKI invalid Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) announcements. This follows discussions with the Routing Working Group (WG), which has agreed we should move forward with this. We have already contacted everyone who might be affected to explain the steps they need to follow. RPKI ROV is a security mechanism that authenticates route advertisements as originating from an expected Autonomous System (AS), with the goal to drop BGP announcements that do not match the routing intentions of the IP address holder as stated in a ROA (Route Origin Authorisation). This also means that operators who made a typo in their ROA might not be able to reach ripe.net anymore. We have reached out to all 215 organisations in the RIPE region that currently have a ROA that does not match with what we see in BGP. Dear colleagues, The call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC) will close on 23 April 2021. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted.
