Dear colleagues,
On 1 March 2019, the RIPE NCC and the other Regional Internet Registries
(RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /23 of IPv4 address space
from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). We received the
following IPv4 address ranges:
160.20.229.0/24
192.94.78.0/24
This returned address space will be added to our free pool and
distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already
received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further
allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here:
https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-708
Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011,
when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to
create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks.
This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated
that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the
recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses.
This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the
Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first
post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. You can read the global policy here:
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/allocation-ipv4-post-exhaustion-2012-…
It is important that network operators continue to deploy IPv6 on their
networks to ensure the future growth of the Internet. Our website has
more information on IPv6 deployment:

2. Your Technical Update
-- RIPEstat Update
The AS Routing Consistency widget now conveniently checks the RPKI status for announced and registered prefixes. Easily spot misconfigurations in your registry, routing or RPKI setup:
https://stat.ripe.net/widget/as-routing-consistency#w.resource=AS3333
A new RIPEstat data call defines the threshold value of shared prefixes for RIS peers to be counted as a full-table peer. Keep in mind that non-full-table peers are not considered for routing visibility calculations:
https://stat.ripe.net/docs/data_api#ris-full-table-threshold
A new widget visualises the historical development of this threshold, which can be linked to the growth of the global routing table:
https://stat.ripe.net/widget/ris-full-table-threshold-history
The Announced Prefixes widget has recently been updated to show which prefixes are currently announced (in light green, with a ‘current’ tag at the end of the row). This resolves some confusion that existed in the previous full prefix listing. We are continuing to make other improvements to this widget, so stay tuned:
https://stat.ripe.net/widget/announced-prefixes#w.resource=AS3333
-- RIPE Atlas Anchors Hit 400+
In our January update we promised we’d be sending more details on the surge in RIPE Atlas anchor numbers. The article we circulated on RIPE Labs shortly afterwards looks at the recent rise past the 400 mark, the introduction of the VM option and other anchor-related developments:

-- RIPE Database Release 1.93
We have deployed RIPE Database release 1.93 to the Release Candidate environment. If we don't find any issues, we plan to deploy to production on Monday, 25 February.

Dear colleagues,
Next week, we will begin emailing LIRs with invalid abuse contacts in
their RIPE Database ORGANISATION objects. We plan to send the first
emails on Wednesday, 20 February.
This is the first step in our implementation of the policy proposal
2017-02, "Regular abuse-c Validation", which was accepted last year.
Once all LIR ORGANISATION objects have been validated, we will proceed
with the validation of abuse contacts referenced in LIR resource objects
and finally those referenced in End User (sponsored) objects.
To save having to deal with this later, please take a moment to review
your abuse contact information and make sure this is accurate.
LIRs with abuse contacts that are maintained in the RIPE Database by
third parties (e.g. End Users) are especially encouraged to think about
reviewing this information sooner rather than later.
You should not receive any emails from us if all of the abuse contacts
that you are responsible for are valid.
You can find updated information about our validation process on RIPE
Labs, and we will keep you updated as we continue with our
implementation:
https://labs.ripe.net/Members/angela_dallara/how-we-will-be-following-up-wi…
Thank you in advance for helping to keep the RIPE Database accurate and
up-to-date.
