RIPE NCC
Dear colleagues,
On 4 September, 21:55 UTC+2, we completed the following changes needed
for NWI-5: Out of region ROUTE(6)/AUT-NUM objects.
- Removal of mnt-routes from AUT-NUM objects
- Removal of the RIPE-NCC-RPSL-MNT
- Update the source attribute for out-of-region ROUTE(6) objects to
RIPE-NONAUTH
On 5 September, 04:32 UTC+2, we also completed the new database dump and
split files at:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/dbase/ <ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/dbase/>
We have updated the release notes accordingly:
https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/release-notes/ripe-database-rel… <https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/release-notes/ripe-database-rel…>
Of course, we will keep monitoring the impact on operators. We would
like to thank everyone who contributed with valuable input during the
test and deployment phases.
Kind regards,
Nathalie Trenaman
Product Manager
RIPE NCC
Dear colleagues,
On 4 September 2018, the RIPE NCC and the other Regional Internet
Registries (RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /22 of IPv4
address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). We
received the following IPv4 address ranges:
192.54.244.0/24
192.144.75.0/24
192.188.248.0/24
205.211.83.0/24
This returned address space will be added to our free pool and
distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already
received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further
allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here:
https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-708
Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011,
when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to
create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks.
This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated
that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the
recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses.
This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the
Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first
post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. You can read the global policy here:
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/allocation-ipv4-post-exhaustion-2012-…
It is important that network operators continue to deploy IPv6 on their
networks to ensure the future growth of the Internet. Our website has
more information on IPv6 deployment:

Dear colleagues,
Are you interested in hosting the RIPE 80 Meeting from 11-15 May 2020?
We invite organisations within the RIPE NCC service region to help us
host the RIPE 80 Meeting. The host helps with providing Internet
connectivity, scouting venues for the RIPE Meeting itself as well as
social events, administrative and on-site support, and assists in
finding local sponsors. It is essential that the host can be depended
upon for a smooth, high-quality meeting.
In return, the host organisation enjoys excellent visibility among the
RIPE community and the prestige of hosting a RIPE Meeting.
Interested? You can find more information at:

OUT-OF-REGION OBJECTS IN THE RIPE DATABASE
We will soon be making changes to the way out-of-region objects are
handled in the RIPE Database. It's important that database users are
aware of these changes and what they mean.
We have created a full impact analysis and implementation plan that will
come into effect from 4 September 2018. We advise users of the RIPE
Database to read this plan:
https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/impact-analysis-for-nwi-5-imple…
We also recently published an article on RIPE Labs with some background
and additional context:
https://labs.ripe.net/Members/denis/out-of-region-route-6-and-aut-num-objec…

COMPANY NAME CHANGE IMPROVEMENTS
We have improved the request form for company name changes. It now
offers a simple, step-by-step process to update the legal name as well
as address and billing information.
Is your membership still registered under the correct company name? Did
your company change name, or was it acquired by another company? Do not
take any risks and check it online via the LIR Portal:
