msm_name in DNS measurements?
Hello, I just stumbled over a field 'msm_name' in a DNS UDM - but it's apparently undocumented (at https://atlas.ripe.net/doc/data_struct#v4540_dns ). What could it contain (except 'Tdig')? (and would it be possible to add it to the documentation?) best, Gilles -- Fondation RESTENA - DNS-LU 6, rue Coudenhove-Kalergi L-1359 Luxembourg tel: (+352) 424409 fax: (+352) 422473
Hi Gilles, You can ignore it. It is for the system purposes. WBR /vty On 11/6/13 10:35 AM, Gilles Massen wrote:

Umm. This is a very disappointing answer. The RIPE NCC always prides itself in being transparent. The answer above is not a supporting fact. It may well be that the field is for system purposes, but please do describe those system purposes. We are engineers, not children. Well... It is a legacy field needed to speed up consumption of the measurement results by saving on database requests. Result consumption is a place where we put a lot of optimization efforts. Basically 'Tdig' is a class name. Since we are still in transition to the new measurement result storage we need to keep it. As soon as we stop depending on it it will be gone. The system is evolving and it may happen that you get it in the downloaded results because we are transparent and do little filtering on the results data. That is the reason you can ignore it and you shouldn't depend on it. WBR Viktor Naoumov On 11/6/13 7:50 PM, Lars-Johan Liman wrote:

Thanks! You've now stilled the curiosity of 200 engineers. :-) Cheers, /Liman
Grown-ups and never depend on undocumented features/data ..... ;-) Sorry, could not resist ...... Daniel (who has been acting childishly from time to time)
