Request for RIPE Atlas Credits for PhD Research on Tor Path Measurements
Dear RIPE Atlas community, My name is Xiaotian Suo, and I am a PhD student at the School of Cyberspace Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology. I am working on a research project studying AS-level exposure and routing asymmetry on Tor client-to-Guard and Exit-to-destination paths. We plan to use RIPE Atlas traceroutes to calibrate and validate data-plane path-inference models. Our initial experiment is deliberately small. We plan to run approximately 20 one-off IPv4 ICMP traceroutes as a smoke test, followed by a paired pilot covering around ten AS-level endpoint pairs in both directions over three measurement rounds. The initial stage should consume fewer than 10,000 credits. If the pipeline works as expected, we would like to expand the study to additional AS pairs, probes, and time windows, and to construct an independent confirmation dataset. For this staged research campaign, I am therefore looking for up to 1,000,000 RIPE Atlas credits. Any partial donation would already be very helpful. Only safe, publicly reachable infrastructure will be used as measurement targets; residential or private end-user addresses will not be targeted. We also intend to make the measurement results available for research reproducibility where possible. Tor uses TCP between nodes, no? Atlas probes can do TCP traceroutes.
