NANOG Community, I hope everyone enjoyed NANOG 59 in Phoenix, NANOG’s largest attended meeting. Fresh off a great meeting, and our NANOG annual elections, we are already starting to get ready for NANOG 60 in Atlanta. Filiz Yilmaz Elected to RIPE Seat on NRO NC

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Filiz Yilmaz was elected to the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) at a Plenary session of the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens on 18 October 2013. Filiz will serve a three-year term from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2016. The election was to fill the seat being vacated by Hans Petter Holen. RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens - Thank You

Dear colleagues, The RIPE 67 Meeting concluded in Athens on Friday, 18 October, and we would like to thank all members of the RIPE community who helped to make it a great success. There were 471 people in attendance, many of whom presented or actively engaged in discussions, and many more participated remotely via the webcast and chat facility. Your involvement helped ensure another vibrant RIPE Meeting. If you were unable to keep track of events in Athens, there are a number of ways you can catch up with what happened. NRO preparing for IGF 2013 in Bali, Indonesia

Dear colleagues, As the eighth Internet Governance Forum (IGF) approaches, the Number Resource Organization (NRO) invites all members of the global Internet community to participate in this open dialogue on Internet governance where all stakeholders meet on an equal footing. As the unified voice for the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), the NRO recognizes the participation of the public and private sectors, as well as all aspects of civil society as critical to discussions on the future of the Internet. The NRO encourages all Internet stakeholders to take part in this important event. If you are unable to attend the 2013 IGF in person, anyone can join the sessions via live webcast and participate in discussions in real time. There will also be several remotes hubs around the world. For more updates, you can follow @IGF2013 on Twitter and the IGF Secretariat on Facebook. NRO participation at the IGF The theme of the 2013 IGF is “Building Bridges – Enhancing Multistakeholder Cooperation for Growth and Sustainable Development”. This year the NRO will host two workshops in the Enhanced Cooperation Track, to promote understanding of the multistakeholder approach to Internet number resource management and the need for openness and transparency in such discussions. • IPv4 Markets and Legacy Space This workshop will address the growing interest from many stakeholders in IPv4 trading and so-called “legacy” address space. It will consider how these issues may affect the future growth of the Internet and the continuing deployment of IPv6 on networks around the world. Election for Seat on the NRO Number Council (NRO NC)

Dear colleagues, Tomorrow, 18 October, an election will take place to fill one seat for the RIPE NCC service region on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC). The winning candidate will begin a three-year term on the NRO NC from 1 January 2014. Voting is open to anyone in attendance at the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens and it will take place from 08:45 – 10:45 on Friday morning. There will be a voting station at the Meet and Greet desk, just outside Ballroom II + III. All attendees will be offered a voting slip and should give their completed voting slip to the election officer at the voting station. Montevideo Statement on the Future of Internet Cooperation, Uruguay, 7 October 2013

Dear colleagues, The leaders of organizations responsible for coordination of the Internet technical infrastructure globally have met in Montevideo, Uruguay, to consider current issues affecting the future of the Internet. The Internet and World Wide Web have brought major benefits in social and economic development worldwide. Both have been built and governed in the public interest through unique mechanisms for global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation, which have been intrinsic to their success. The leaders discussed the clear need to continually strengthen and evolve these mechanisms, in truly substantial ways, to be able to address emerging issues faced by stakeholders in the Internet. In this sense: - They reinforced the importance of globally coherent Internet operations, and warned against Internet fragmentation at a national level. They expressed strong concern over the undermining of the trust and confidence of Internet users globally due to recent revelations of pervasive monitoring and surveillance. - They identified the need for ongoing effort to address Internet Governance challenges, and agreed to catalyze community-wide efforts towards the evolution of global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation. - They called for accelerating the globalization of ICANN and IANA functions, towards an environment in which all stakeholders, including all governments, participate on an equal footing. - They also called for the transition to IPv6 to remain a top priority globally. In particular Internet content providers must serve content with both IPv4 and IPv6 services, in order to be fully reachable on the global Internet. Adiel A. Lightning Talks at RIPE 67

Dear Colleagues, As there are just days left to meet in Athens at RIPE 67, please be reminded that RIPE PC is still accepting proposals for Lightning Talk slots, as part of the Plenary program. Lightning talks are short (5-10 minutes) presentations covering any topic and may or may not include slides. The presenter can choose how much of this time to spend on their presentation versus Q&A. Lightning talk proposals can be made in advance of a RIPE Meeting or during the days the meeting takes place. The PC decides which lightning talks to allow on short notice – in some cases on the same day the lightning talk is proposed. As majority of the lightning talk slots will be scheduled on Monday and Tuesday of the meeting next week, we encourage you to submit your proposals within this week.
