RIPE Programme Committee elections at RIPE70

Dear Colleagues, The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in 2015 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 70 in Amsterdam. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee (https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. With the RIPE 70 PC elections, nominations can be sent in from today on until Tuesday May 12th, 15:30. We announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves already. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday 15:30, and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. Candidates (or stand-ins for candidates) can present themselves at the start of the Tuesday 16:00 session. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday May 12th, 16:00 until Thursday May 14th, 17:30, for the community members to cast their votes. The official announcement of the elected RIPE PC members will be on Friday morning at the start of the 11:00 closing plenary session. Questions about the RIPE PC can be sent to pc(a)ripe.net. Proposals Open for Discussion: 2015-02, "Keep IPv6 PI When Requesting IPv6 Allocation" – discussion open until 13 May 2015 2014-03, "Remove Multihoming Requirement for AS Number Assignments" – discussion open until 19 May 2015 Proposals awaiting impact analysis: 2015-01, "Alignment of Transfer Requirements for IPv4 Allocations" Proposals accepted: 2014-05, "Policy for Inter-RIR Transfers of Internet Resources" Proposal Overviews: PROPOSAL: 2015-02, "Keep IPv6 PI When Requesting IPv6 Allocation" Overview: This proposal aims to remove the requirement that LIRs should return their IPv6 Provider Independent (PI) assignment when requesting an IPv6 allocation. STATUS: Discussion Phase WHERE TO COMMENT: The Address Policy Working Group – address-policy-wg(a)ripe.net DEADLINE: 13 May 2015 FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2015-02 PROPOSAL: 2014-03, "Remove Multihoming Requirement for AS Number Assignments" OVERVIEW: This proposal aims to ease the requirements when requesting an Autonomous System (AS) Number. It is proposed to remove the need evaluation, limit the amount of AS Numbers per organization to 1,000 and require that 16-bit AS Numbers are multihomed after nine months. RIPE NCC IMPACT ANALYSIS: Includes point that it will be the End User that decides if the need for an AS Number is technically reasonable. STATUS: Review Phase (extended) WHERE TO COMMENT: The Address Policy Working Group – address-policy-wg(a)ripe.net DEADLINE: 19 May 2015 FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2014-03 ===== PROPOSAL: 2015-01, "Alignment of Transfer Requirements for IPv4 Allocations" OVERVIEW: Currently IPv4 allocations received from another LIR only can be re-allocated after 24 months, while IPv4 allocations made by the RIPE NCC can be transferred immediately. This proposal aims to align the transfer requirements with a 24 month holding period for all IPv4 allocations. STATUS: Discussion Phase - Awaiting Impact Analysis* FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2015-01 *The goal of the impact analysis is to provide supporting information to facilitate discussions about the proposal and to outline its possible impact if it were to be accepted. ===== The following proposal has been accepted since the last RIPE Policy Proposal Update. The RIPE NCC has started the implementation of this policy change. PROPOSAL: 2014-05, "Policy for Inter-RIR Transfers of Internet Resources" OVERVIEW: This proposal aims to allow the global transfer of Internet resources. For transfers to the RIPE NCC service region from RIRs that require needs-based policies, recipients must provide the RIPE NCC with a plan for the use of at least 50% of the transferred resources within five years. STATUS: Accepted EXPECTED IMPLEMENTATION: August 2015* FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2014-05 *Note: the RIPE NCC will only follow a policy change once it has been completely implemented and announced to the community. This means that inter-RIR transfers will only be possible from around August 2015. Successful launch of the redesigned RIPE NCC website

Dear colleagues, We’re pleased to announce that the redesigned RIPE NCC website has successfully launched and that all related applications and websites have also switched over to the new template, including RIPE Labs, the LIR Portal, RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat. The redesign was based on feedback from our members and the community, and focused on restructuring the content and making it easier to navigate, improving the search function, and creating a fresh, new look for the site. Planned Maintenance for Redesigned Website Launch

Dear colleagues, We have been hard at work getting our redesigned website ready for the launch next week, and are now in the final stages of the project. We've published a series of articles about the project and the latest one, which focuses on the new visual design, is now available on RIPE Labs: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/adam_castle/redesigning-the-ripe-ncc-website-… In order to make the switch to the new site, we have scheduled maintenance on Monday, 13 April from 5:30 - 7:30 UTC to work on the server infrastructure behind www.ripe.net. We don’t expect this work to impact visitors to the site, but there may be occasional disruptions during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Beginning Monday, we hope you will take the opportunity to visit the new site and explore some of the new features. Once we have successfully switched over all applications and related websites to the new template, we will send another announcement. Phase 1 of Deprecation of "changed:" Attribute Deployed to RIPE Database Release Candidate Environment

Dear colleagues, The RIPE Database Working Group has asked the RIPE NCC to replace the “changed:” attribute in the RIPE Database with “created:” and “last-modified:”. We want to inform the wider community, in case you have any feedback you would like to share with the Database WG. Following discussions at RIPE 69, we met with the WG chairs and finalised an implementation plan consisting of three phases: 1) Introduce the new attributes “created:” and “last-modified:” 2) Make the "changed:" attribute optional 3) Deprecate the "changed:" attribute Details of this implementation plan can be found here: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/tim/deprecating-the-changed-attribute-in-the-… <https://labs.ripe.net/Members/tim/deprecating-the-changed-attribute-in-the-…> We recently informed the Database WG that Phase 1 of this implementation had been deployed to the Release Candidate environment.
