Introducing the RIPE Forum

Dear colleagues, There’s a new way to participate on the RIPE Working Group mailing lists: the RIPE Forum, a web-based interface for reading and sending emails on RIPE community mailing lists. We developed the RIPE Forum in-house based on feedback we received from members of the RIPE community who wanted the option to interact and share information in a more modern way. It’s important to note that this new interface is completely optional – those who like using the established mailing list system can continue as they always have, and won’t notice any difference. Several weeks ago the RIPE Forum was deployed on the RIPE Atlas mailing list as a pilot. The test was a success, with no major issues detected, and very positive comments were received from users. We presented the results to the RIPE Working Group Chairs and, based on their feedback, decided to deploy the RIPE Forum to all RIPE Working Group mailing lists. We invite you to have a look yourself: https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum/ We created a special mailing list for testing purposes, so that any conversations about the platform itself can be contained there without disrupting the regular flow of discussions on the RIPE Working Group mailing lists. RIPE NCC Survey 2016: Please Participate

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Survey 2016 is now online. You can take the survey at: https://www.ripe.net/survey2016 We ask that you take this very important survey for the RIPE NCC and the RIPE community, and that you encourage your colleagues and contacts to participate. The survey is carried out by the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), which guarantees anonymity for participants and independent assessment of results. It will remain open until 30 June 2016. There are no limits on who can take the survey. RIPE NCC members as well as other interested parties globally are asked to participate. If many people in the same organisation would like to take the survey, they are welcome to do so. The survey conducted in 2013 by the OII provided us with 48 key findings that the RIPE NCC was able to act on, and we hope this survey will provide similarly useful feedback. This is your chance to let the RIPE NCC know exactly what you think and give your suggestions for how the organisation should operate. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. RIPE Programme Committee nominations

Dear Friends and Colleagues, The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in 2016 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 72 in Copenhagen. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee (https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 72 PC electionscan be sent in today on until Tuesday May 24th, 15:30. We announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves already. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday 15:30, and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. Candidates (or their stand-ins) can present themselves at the start of the Tuesday 16:00 session. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday May 24th, 16:00 until Thursday May 26th, 17:30, for the community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public. The official announcement of the elected RIPE PC members will be on Friday morning at the start of the 11:00 closing plenary session. Questions about the RIPE PC can be sent to pc(a)ripe.net. Proposals Open for Discussion: NEW: 2016-02, "Resource Authentication Key ( RAK ) code for third party authentication" NEW: 2016-03, "Locking Down the Final /8 Policy" Proposals Awaiting Input: 2015-05, "Revision of Last /8 Allocation Criteria" 2015-04, "RIPE Resource Transfer Policies" 2016-01, "Include Legacy Internet Resource Holders in the Abuse-c Policy" Proposal Overviews: NEW PROPOSAL: 2016-02, "Resource Authentication Key ( RAK ) code for third party authentication" OVERVIEW: Aims to allow all number resources, in exacts and more specifics, to be authenticated via an API-key that expires on a certain date. These allocations will receive a separate status with several restrictions, including that the address space will not be transferrable. PROPOSAL: 2015-04, "RIPE Resource Transfer Policies" OVERVIEW: Aims to create a single transfer policy with all relevant information on the transfer of Internet number resources, replacing text in several RIPE Policies. The proposal also introduces a 24-month holding period for IPv4 addresses and 16-bit ASNs after any change of holdership. RIPE NCC IMPACT ANALYSIS: Describes how the 24-month holding period for scarce resources will be applied. STATUS: Review Phase – Awaiting decision from working group chair FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2015-04 PROPOSAL: 2015-05, "Revision of Last /8 Allocation Criteria" OVERVIEW: Aims to allow LIRs to request an additional /22 IPv4 allocation from the RIPE NCC every 18 months. The latest version of the proposal introduces several requirements, such as that the LIR cannot hold more than a /20 of IPv4, must document their IPv6 deployment, and must not have transferred any IPv4 address space before. STATUS: Discussion Phase – Awaiting decision from proposer FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2015-05 PROPOSAL: 2016-01, "Include Legacy Internet Resource Holders in the Abuse-c Policy" OVERVIEW: Aims for a mandatory abuse contact for Legacy Internet Resource holders in the RIPE Database. STATUS: Discussion Phase – Awaiting decision from proposer FULL PROPOSAL: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/proposals/2016-01 The RIPE NCC provides an overview of current RIPE Policy Proposals on www.ripe.net: https://www.ripe.net/participate/policies/current-proposals/current-policy-… During the upcoming RIPE Meeting, the Address Policy Working Group will hold two sessions where ongoing and possible future policy proposals will be discussed. If you can not attend the RIPE Meeting in person, we invite you to join remotely. A live webcast and IRC chat facility will be available for remote participation.
