There are too many A records to fit in one udp packet. Apparently you are using a DNS query tool which cannot handle this properly. For a more robust tool, I recommend contrib/host from the BIND distribution (for the latest version fetch ftp://ftp.nikhef.nl/pub/network/host.tar.Z) -- Eric Wassenaar

We are seeing the same problem with E.ROOT-SERVERS.NET's address. Even worse, I have the suspicion that bad DNS behaviour here(very frequent broadcasting of DNS requests) are caused by this. This is a bind problem too of course. We run the "patched" Solaris 2.4 bind. One of the affected machines run's the 2.3 bind. Same problem. Anyone else seeing broadcasted DNS requests when they have this bad data? Hans van Staveren
