The announcement is available at: https://www.nro.net/nro-announcement-on-afrinic/ ------------------------------ NRO Announcement on AFRINIC Re: Restoration of the Order Appointing the Official Receiver for AFRINIC The NRO welcomes the announcement published on AFRINIC’s website, which reads as follows: ———– The Supreme Court of Mauritius made the following ruling on 15 October 2024. The ruling sets aside the appeal initiated by AFRINIC on 28 September 2023 and restores the judgement made by the learned Judge of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court delivered on 12 September 2023. This ruling also restores the previous order appointing the Official Receiver and providing the Official Receiver with a two-month timeframe to organise the elections in accordance with AFRINIC’s constitution and complete the entire process from the date of this judgement. On Behalf of the Official Receiver ———— The NRO views the ruling, which prioritizes the importance of organizing elections, as a positive development. We look forward to the successful execution of elections which are fundamental to restoring AFRINIC’s governance and returning the organisation to full function. We encourage the AFRINIC members and community to participate actively and consciously in the election process. The NRO continues to stand ready to provide any information or support to the Official Receiver, Mr. Vasoodayven Virasami, if requested. BCOP TF meeting in Prague on Monday...

Dear community, Usually I would not write here about the BCOP TF sessions at RIPE meetings, but this one is a little bit different... After the report from "Documenting the best operational practices of running networks during the war (Ukraine)" topic - we'll open a discussion about if we should start documenting what our community consensus process actually is. Currently, we use bits and pieces from the IETF and other organizations, but the problem is that this is not documented anywhere and every RIPE community member may have their own version in their mind. That being said, I would like to invite all interested in this topic to the BCOP TF session at the end of Monday, so we can discuss it, figure out if we need this documented and (if yes) - maybe form a small group of people that will start working on it. https://ripe89.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/bcop-tf/ Cheers and thnx! Colleagues, The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Autumn 2024 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 89. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc [at] ripe [dot] net. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can already nominate themselves. If you are nominating someone else, please ensure that the person concerned is willing to be nominated and is copied on emails sent to the PC. The PC will attempt to confirm that nomination with the nominee before proceeding. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday, 29 October at 15:30 CET (UTC+1) and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday, 29 October, 16:00 CET (UTC+1) until Thursday, 31 October, 17:00 CET (UTC+1), for community members to cast their votes. Revising the Criteria for the Accreditation of Regional Internet Registries

Dear colleagues, I would like to share an update on the ongoing work to revise the criteria for the accreditation of Regional Internet Registries. The NRO NC has published a document with proposed principles for the recognition of RIRs and ongoing requirements that RIRs should meet. You can read the details in my article published on RIPE Labs: https://labs.ripe.net/author/athina/revising-the-criteria-for-the-accredita… This is an important step in the RIRs' and their respective communities' efforts to prove that there are adequate checks and balances to ensure the stability and self-governance of the Internet Numbers Registry System. As part of the RIPE community, I encourage you to share your thoughts on the proposed principles via the designated questionnaire, which is open until 19 November 2024. New Report: How to Get IP Addresses for Your Network

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce the publication of our new report that provides an overview of the current options for obtaining IP address space from both the RIPE NCC and external sources. The research combines financial data from IPv4 transactions, current market prices from various platforms, and insights from interviews with ISPs, mobile operators, IPv4 transfer brokers, government representatives, and network consultants. We are also planning to translate the report into some of the languages spoken in our service region and will look for volunteers from our community to help us with the translations. The NRO Invites the Internet Community to Participate in the ICP-2 Questionnaire

This message is sent on behalf of the Number Resource Organization ------------------ The full announcement is available at: https://www.nro.net/the-nro-invites-internet-community-to-participate-in-ic… ------------------ The Number Resource Organization (NRO), the coordinating body for the global Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), is calling on individuals in the global Internet community to participate in a questionnaire focused on a proposed principles document that will be used to update the Internet Coordination Policy-2 (ICP-2). ICP-2, first created in 2001, identifies the criteria for an organization seeking to become a new RIR. In October 2023, the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC) was asked by the NRO Executive Council to update the ICP-2. This proposed principles document is the first major step in the ASO AC’s work of revising ICP-2. It sets forth the core principles that the ASO AC believes should be reflected in the next version of ICP-2. In addition to principles on RIR governance, ecosystem, lifecycle, recognition and operation, the document also provides principles for the potential ‘derecognition’ of an RIR if it fails to adhere to the criteria established. The ASO AC will take into account the comments received to draft a revised version of the ICP-2 document to present to stakeholders for further feedback. Responses can be submitted in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, the official working languages of the RIRs. Respondents will see the option to choose one of these languages if their browser is not set to English.
