Hostcount Graphics Available

Dear all, There is now also a graphical version of the hostcount available, one file shows the monthly increase and the other the increase per quarter. You can find the files under: ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/hostcount/RIPE-Hostcount-{Mo,Qu}.eps As you have probably already noticed, my previous mail contained a slight but significant error: The zone in the de domain had of course not 65,000 SOA RR's but 65,000 A RR's listed. Hostcount for September 1995

Dear all, Here is the hostcount for September 1995. The table shows an increase since last month of almost 57,000 (or 3.2%) to a total of over 1,830,000 hosts in the DNS in Europe. This comes to a total increase of 18.1% during the last three months. The UK shows the highest increase for August with more than 17,000 hosts more than in August. The de domain shows a decrease of over 40,000 hosts. The zone that listed 65,000 SOA records and caused a very big increase in the de domain in July has changed again and shows only two hosts. The hostcount can also be found under ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/hostcount. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you are interested, you are still welcome to join. The agenda is not known yet, but the global structure of the meeting will be as the previous ones: Working group meetings at Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning and a plenary on Thursday afternoon/Friday morning. One shows the bus and tram stops around the meeting site and the other is a more general map of the area. The number 15 now connects the Amstel station with Muiderpoort station. a) Recommended public transport route from Amsterdam Schipol airport: <> Take the train from the airport railway station to the Central Railway station (Amsterdam CS). Then from Amsterdam Central Station : <> Take tram number 9 till the stop at the intersection of Middenweg and Kruislaan (15 min ride). The stop is just before the intersection. <> Walk down the Kruislaan in the direction of the railway bridge. Cross under the bridge and continue. Take the 2nd entrance left and follow the signs to the meeting (15 min walk all together). Instead of walking down Kruislaan you can take the shuttlebus for 2 stops. Turn into Kruislaan and the bustop is a little way down on the right hand side of the road. or from Central Station you can: <> Take bus 22 in the direction 'Indische Buurt' to the stop at the 'Muiderpoort Station' and take shuttlebus 66 which stops outside CWI. b) Alternatively from Amsterdam Schipol: <> Take the train from the airport railway station to the RAI station in Amsterdam. You can also take the shuttlebus 66 from the Kruislaan and Linnaeusparkweg intersection as described above. d) Taxi from the airport <> Takes 15 mins and will cost approximately Hfl. 60.00 e) Connections away <> Tram 6, 10 to Leidseplein (now with conductor on tram) Tram 9, 14 to Rembrandtplein and Dam Square (9 goes to Central Station) ==================================================================== Public Transport - how much does it cost and where can I get tickets? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Tickets of 15 strips (`Strippenkaart' costing Hfl. 10.75) can be bought in Post Offices, railway stations and cigarette shops. Tickets of 2 and 3 strips can be bought on the bus or the tram but they are much more expensive. You have to validate the ticket yourself in the metro stations and in the trams (except on lines 4, 6, 7, 10, 12 and 13). In the buses the driver will validate the ticket. Amsterdam is divided into zones: the old city is in zone `Centrum' whereas CWI is in zone `Oost'. You need to count how many zones you will be travelling through (from the centre - CWI is 2 zones) and count up that number of strips on your ticket + 1 extra. So in the above example you will need to stamp the 3rd strip. In case of overflow you stamp the last strip of the first ticket and start counting the remaining strips on the next ticket. Confused? Ask any member of the local organizing committee. Warning: BEWARE of pickpockets in crowded places. --------------------------

Please could those of you who provide IP services in CEE answer the following questions : 1. price of an e-mail subscription (per month, average) 2. price of a dial-up IP connection (per month, average) 3. price of a low speed (9.6) permanent IP connection (per month) 4. price of a 64 Kbit digital line from you to Amsterdam (per month) Please give me prices in dollars, no need to be exact. There are too many A records to fit in one udp packet. Apparently you are using a DNS query tool which cannot handle this properly. For a more robust tool, I recommend contrib/host from the BIND distribution (for the latest version fetch ftp://ftp.nikhef.nl/pub/network/host.tar.Z) -- Eric Wassenaar
