Type "ftp ftp.ripe.net". Login with username "anonymous" supplying your email address as the password. After logging in, type "cd ripe/docs/ripe-docs" followed by the command "get <ripe-098.txt>". Electronic Mail Retrieval of Documents -------------------------------------- Documents can also be retrieved from the RIPE document store using a mail server program. For more information on how to use the program, send email to: mail-server(a)ripe.net with "send HELP" in the body text. RIPE NCC Interactive Information Server --------------------------------------- Type "telnet host info.ripe.net". This is a menu driven service allows the document store to be browsed. After reading documents you are prompted as to whether you would like to receive an email copy of the document you have just read. If you would, you simply enter your email address and the document will be mailed to you. Below are details of alternative methods of access. Gopher Access ------------- The same documents are available via a "gopher" server at "gopher gopher.ripe.net". New RIPE whois client available

A new version of the RIPE whois client for Unix systems is now available in ftp.ripe.net:tools/ripe-whois.tar.Z. It supports several new options of the RIPE whois server. >From the manual page: ----------------------------------------------------------------- -r This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. suppress recursive lookup of related entries. Normally the RIPE whois server will automatically look up contact persons associated with an object. Specify this flag if you do not want this behavior. Only objects matching the iden- tifier will be printed. -a This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. This causes the server to include informa- tion from non-RIPE whois databases in the reply. Currently these are the public parts of the US NIC and NSFnet databases. Please note that the RIPE NCC does not maintain these databases. The information is included for for your convenience only. -s source This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. selects a database with the requested ----------------------------------------------------------------- These options can also be used without installing the client by connecting directly to the RIPE whois server at port 43 of host whois.ripe.net and entering the option flags followed by the search key(s). Note that there is no prompt and the connection will be closed after the answer to the query is output. Comments welcome RIPE NCC

Current RIPE Forms and Procedures Available in Fixed Place

The files with the current RIPE forms and procedures can from now on always be found in a fixed place in the RIPE dcoument store. This makes it possible to refer to the current version of these documents in other documentation. There are two subdirectories in the document store called "forms" and "procedures" respectively. forms: This directory contains the current RIPE NCC application forms. All of these are links to the current RIPE documents also available in ~ftp/ripe/docs/ripe-docs. as-appl - Application for an Autonomous System Number netmum-appl - Application for an IP network number (IP address space) procedures: This directory contains descriptions of RIPE NCC procedures. Ref: ripe-096 Title: Authorisation and Notification of Changes in the RIPE Database Author: Daniel Karrenberg Date: 13 Oct 1993 Format: PS=24778 TXT=5675 bytes Short content description ------------------------- Two new attributes are defined for all objects in the RIPE database in order to implement a generalised method for authorising changes and to notify interested parties of any changes made to a specific object. In addition the authorisa- tion method provides a convenient way for distri- buted maintenance of the database. CALL FOR PAPERS INET '94, the Annual Conference of the Internet Society held in conjunction with the 5th Joint European Networking Conference (JENC5) Jointly organized by RARE and the Internet Society Prague, Czech Republic, June 13-17, 1994 The Internet Society (ISOC) and Reseaux Associes pour la Recherche Europeenne (RARE) have joined forces to organize a global networking conference. It will take place on 13 - 17 June 1994, in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Focusing on worldwide issues of com- puter-based networking, the goal of the conference is to bring together individuals from academia, industry and government who are involved with planning, developing, implementing, managing, funding, and using national, regional and international research, academic, and commercial computer networks. Please note that files deposited in this directory can only be written once and cannot be deleted afterwards. Should electronic submission be impossible, please submit 6 copies of double-spaced full paper manuscript (maximum of 4000 words) with an abstract to the INET-JENC Secretariat at the address given below. Demonstrations There will be the opportunity for participants to present their projects or activities in the form of a demonstration. Proposed demonstrations should be documented with a description not exceeding one page. There will be a 'European Science Media Conference' at CERN on Dec. 1-2 1993 where about 150 journalists of (mostly european) scientific newspapers and magazines will participate. We 'd like to show them the advantages of using multimedia electronic mail in their daily work but they need to know how to get Internet connectivity to transfer their messages. As there are several service providers today I would like to make a list of those who want to reply to me with their contact and pricing information.
