Polish Network Operators Group - Call for Papers

Dear Colleagues, PLNOG <http://plnog.pl/en> is an event where Polish Internet Service Providers, network operators and other interested parties get together. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. PLNOG18 will take place on March 6-7th, 2017 in Warsaw, Poland. The PLNOG Programme Committee is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary sessions, panels, workshops and tutorials at PLNOG18. Proposals for plenary sessions, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than 8 January 2017. Proposals submitted after this date will be considered depending on the remaining available space in the programme. We are looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Network Security - Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations - Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses - Data centre technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange - Internet of Things (IoT) - Cloud PLNOG attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. [news] Temporary Unavailability During RIPE NCC Office Move

We've made plans to ensure that our operations run as smoothly as possible during the transition but please be aware of the following unavoidable downtimes: 15 December from 11:30 - 12:00 (unreachable by phone) 21 December from 13:00 - 14:00 (unreachable by phone/email) 21 December at 13:00 - 23 December at 9:00 - no contracts will be processed Our staff will work from home while the movers are clearing out our old office on 21-22 December and moving us into our new space. Each year the Vietsch Foundation will award a Medal of Honour to individuals who have contributed to the development of a service, technology or approach that will be of enduring value to the community. Since RARE and subsequently TERENA has had a close relationship with RIPE and some of you may remember Karel, I am writing on behalf of the Vietsch Foundation board of Trustees to invite you to consider nominating a recipient for the 2017 Vietsch Foundation Medal. Introducing the Rob Blokzijl Foundation

Dear colleagues, Exactly one year ago, on 1 December 2015, our beloved and esteemed colleague Rob Blokzijl passed away. The RIPE NCC marked his passing with a tribute on RIPE Labs, which received many heartfelt expressions of condolence and respect from the community: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/mirjam/tribute-to-dr-robert-blokzij-1943-2015 To continue Rob’s legacy, we’re proud to announce the creation of the Rob Blokzijl Foundation. The Rob Blokzijl Foundation is part of the RIPE NCC’s Good of the Internet Initiative, which was outlined by RIPE NCC Executive Board Member Salam Yamout during the RIPE NCC Services Working Group at RIPE 73: https://ripe73.ripe.net/archives/video/1479/ The objective of the foundation is to recognise and reward individuals who: - made substantial and sustained technical and operational contributions to the development of the Internet in the RIPE NCC Service Region, or - supported or enabled others with the development of the Internet in the RIPE NCC Service Region. The foundation will strive to realise this objective at least every two years. A Board and an awards committee will soon be established to ensure the effective running of the foundation. The foundation’s initial reserve of 25,000 EUR will be donated by the RIPE NCC. We intend for the foundation to thereafter become self-sustaining. Paris, France In conjunction with IEEE ICC 2017 http://scpa.it.ubi.pt/2017/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Selected papers will be invited to the Special Issue on Smart Protocols and Algorithms of the International Journal Network Protocols and Algorithms (ISSN: 1943-3581) or to the Special Issue on Recent Advances on Communications and Networking Technology Journal (ISSN: 2215-082X (Online); ISSN: 2215-0811 (Print)). Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could be used by network devices to communicate across the network. Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance the communication procedure. Smart communication protocols and algorithms make use of several methods and techniques (such as machine learning techniques, decision making techniques, knowledge representation, network management, network optimization, problem solution techniques, and so on), to communicate the network devices to transfer data between them. They can be used to perceive the network conditions, or the user behavior, in order to dynamically plan, adapt, decide, take the appropriate actions, and learn from the consequences of its actions. The algorithms can make use of the information gathered from the protocol in order to sense the environment, plan actions according to the input, take consciousness of what is happening in the environment, and take the appropriate decisions using a reasoning engine. Goals such as decide which scenario fits best its end-to-end purpose, or environment prediction, can be achieved with smart protocols and algorithms. Moreover, they could learn from the pas! t and use this knowledge to improve future decisions. In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart communication protocols or algorithms at any communication layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are included in the workshop. We welcome technical papers presenting analytical research, simulations, practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, and papers addressing the key problems and solutions. The topics suggested by the conference can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art, standards, deployments, implementations, running experiments and applications. RIPE Accountability Task Force

Dear colleagues, At RIPE 73 there was support for a review of the RIPE community's accountability, by looking at its current procedures, documentation and structures. An Accountability Task Force has been established to carry out this work and will have its first meeting in the coming weeks, after which a charter and additional information will be published. A mailing list will also be created for the Task Force’s discussions and the archives will be publicly available. Migration Datacenter

Hello, We are going to migrate from our actually datacenter to another one. We have /22 IPs block and not have AS number, our datacenter announce them. Our plan is as follows: - We already add new route objects before migration and will remove old after migration. - At dawn on Sunday, November 27 about 3:00 AM, we will shut down all our servers from the current data center. - At that point we will delete the current route ASXXXX in RIPE DB from inetnum XXX.XXX.XX.0/22 and only the route object corresponding to new datacenter will remain. - We will contact new datacenter to activate our IP block on their router and configure the requested gateway. - We will dismantle the entire rack from old datacenter and move it to the new datacenter where we will start up all our servers again. We need to know if the procedure is correct and very important, the time it takes to propagate the new route of our IP block since we delete the current ASXXXXX and the new ASXXXX is activated by new datacenter. We also need to know if we depend on any action by the current data center to complete this procedure. For example, if they have to remove our block from their AS or their router and that would happen in case they refused to do so on the date indicated for the migration. Thanks and regards.
