Reminder: Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, This is a reminder to participate in the 2010 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey being conducted by GNKS Consult and TNO, in collaboration with the RIPE NCC. The survey is now available at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IPv6deploymentmonitoring2010 The survey will close on 1 July 2010. All five Regional Internet Registries have committed to soliciting participation in this survey in order to compile the most complete global IPv6 deployment data possible. The goal of the survey is to gain a better understanding of where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6. We encourage all organisations in the RIPE NCC service region to participate in this survey, which we hope will establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 23 questions and can be completed in about 15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. Results of the IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey will be presented and discussed at RIPE 61, which will be held 15-19 November in Rome, Italy. Results will also be published on IPv6 Act Now: http://ipv6actnow.org Please provide your name and contact information on the survey form if you wish to receive the draft survey analysis when available. Please also indicate whether you are willing to share additional data with the TNO and GNKS Consult IPv6 Deployment Monitoring team. 2010 IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey Now Underway

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, As announced at RIPE 60 in Prague, GNKS Consult and TNO are working with the RIPE NCC to repeat the 2009 survey on the current and future use of IPv6 throughout the RIPE NCC service region. The IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is now online, and we encourage all members of the RIPE community to participate: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IPv6deploymentmonitoring2010 The purpose of the survey is to better understand where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6. As it is mostly the same as the survey carried out in 2009, comparison of progress will be possible. In addition, RIPE community participation will contribute to a better understanding of the global situation, as APNIC, AfriNIC and LACNIC will also send out the request to participate to their communities. Rob Blokzijl Receives Royal Recognition for his Work as an Internet Pioneer

Dear Colleagues, Dr. Rob Blokzijl, founding member and Chair of RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens), was made an Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau (Orde van Oranje Nassau) in an official ceremony conducted by the acting Mayor of Amsterdam, Lodewijk Asscher, on 12 May 2010. In the official ceremony, Dr. Blokzijl was recognised for his outstanding leadership and contribution to the development of the Internet over the last 20 years, for his international reputation as an Internet pioneer and as one of the key figures in the European Internet. Over the past two decades, Dr. Blokzijl has established a global reputation as a leader and a pioneer, respected for his work with many organisations including RIPE, the RIPE NCC, AMS-IX, ICANN, Nominet, the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (NIKHEF) and NATO. Through his technical expertise, leadership and global influence, Dr. Blokzijl’s tireless work has had a profound impact on the development of the Internet. We are delighted to announce that Dr. Blokzijl’s leadership, vision and continued hard work has been recognised and rewarded with one of the greatest honours that can be bestowed in the Netherlands. Daniel Karrenberg and myself have produced a document (attached to this mail) which describes what we think the role of this registry should be after the runout of the unallocated IPv4 address space. Proposed text on RIPE NCC activities related to IPv6

Dear RIPE, On Wednesday, 5 May, 14:00-15:30, in room Bohemia, the Cooperation Working Group will have a normal meeting. Normal also from the point of how packed the agenda is. You can yourself see the agenda etc on this web page: <http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-60/agendas.php?wg=cooperation> Remote participation is possible. One of the Agenda Points is "E. RIPE Community Consultation on IPv6 and ITU". As you might be aware of, ITU-T is working on IPv6 issues, just like everyone else. You can find the ITU-T IPv6 webpage at this URL: <http://www.itu.int/net/ITU-T/ipv6/> There have been some discussions in the RIPE region related to this work. Enough so that we suggest RIPE is requestion RIPE NCC to actively participate in these discussions. This will be discussed on the RIPE Closing Plenary on Friday as well as during the Cooperation Working Group on Wednesday. The suggested text as of Tuesday morning is what you can see below. Roland Perry <roland(a)ripe.net> is the person that is holding the pen of the text if you want to discuss details in private with him. Patrik Fältström & Maria Häll, Chairs of the Cooperation Working Group ==== The RIPE community supports all efforts to assist in the deployment of IPv6, especially in developing countries. However, it notes some concerns recently expressed in the ITU IPv6 Group that the current IP address management system is inadequate to support operators in developing countries. The RIPE Community does not share these concerns and mandates the RIPE NCC, in consultation with the Community, to identify ways to address concerns (if any) within the current IP address management system. ====
