Does someone know when the problem with the root servers will be fixed? ... compuserve.com internet address = 198.4.8.13 compuserve.com internet address = 198.4.8.14 compuserve.com internet address = 198.4.8.15 compuserve.com(root) ??? unknown type 0 ??? (root) ??? unknown type 372 ??? (name truncated?) *** ARL-NAME-SVC-1.COMPUSERVE.COM can't find compuserve.com: Unspecified error
What you are seeing here is UDP packet truncation, and has nothing to do with the root servers. There are too many A records to fit in one udp packet. Apparently you are using a DNS query tool which cannot handle this properly. For a more robust tool, I recommend contrib/host from the BIND distribution (for the latest version fetch ftp://ftp.nikhef.nl/pub/network/host.tar.Z) -- Eric Wassenaar
