Dear colleagues, it has turned out to be impossible for all practical purposes to find suitable candidates for deputy NCC manager with a solid Internet service provision background. With hindsight this is of course not surprising given the current demand for such people. On suggestion of the contributors committee we have therefore decided to look for a business manager who will take responsibility for the business aspects of running the NCC. This will allow the NCC manager (me) to concentrate more on the technical aspects of the work. As you can imagine I am quite keen to have this person on board as soon as possible. The RIPE Network Coordination Centre provides coordination services to all European Internet service providers. Due to the continuing explosive growth of the European Internet there is an immediate opening at the RIPE NCC for a Business Manager Duties The business manager will be responsible for NCC finances, reporting, general customer relations and some specific services. The business manager will be closely involved in planning, budgeting, hiring personnel and the development of new projects and services. The specific responsibilities of the business manager include: o the Quarterly RIPE NCC Reports o the Annual Report o budgetary control o customer billing o customer training programme o support the NCC manager in planning and budgeting o identify the need for and plan new projects and services Essential Qualifications o work experience in an international environment o experience with financial controls o very good knowledge of written and spoken English o good communication skills o ability to learn and use Unix and X-windows based computer tools Desirable Qualifications o experience in Internet service provision The position provides an excellent opportunity to work at the very heart of the European Internet industry. R I P E RIPE (Reseaux IP Europeens) is a collaborative organisation open to all European Internet service providers. The objective of RIPE is to ensure the necessary administrative and technical coordination to allow the operation of a pan- European IP network. RIPE does not operate a network of its own. RIPE has been functioning since 1989. The result of the RIPE coordination effort is that the individual end-user is presented on his desk top with a uniform IP service irrespective of the particular network his or her computer is attached to. R I P E N C C The RIPE Network Coordination Centre providers coordination services to European Internet service provider. The NCC's widely recognised neutrality and impartiality are a key requirement for its success. The NCC also supports RIPE activities where appropriate. The RIPE NCC currently employs eight staff (1 part time). NCC staff are formally employed by TERENA. TERENA TERENA is the European Association of research networking organisations and their users. TERENA has been created by a merger of the RARE and EARN associations. TERENA carries out technical activities and provides a platform for discussion and education to encourage the development of a high-quality computer networking infrastructure for the European research community. Conditions RIPE NCC personnel is employed by the TERENA association under their standard employment conditions. The salary will be compatible with a managerial position with significant responsibilities and depend on qualifications and experience. Costs of relocation to the Netherlands will be fully met. The appointment will be for one year with possible extension. Location The RIPE NCC is located at the Scientific Center Watergraafsmeer (WCW) in Amsterdam. The offices are situated at NIKHEF, the Dutch National Institute for Nuclear Physics and High Energy Physics.
