[Apologies for duplicate e-mails]
Dear Colleagues,
On Thursday, 26 October 2006, there will be planned maintenance on the
Routing Information Service (RIS). This work will allow us to avoid
several issues related to disabling keepalives for BGP sessions.
Between 13:00 and 16:00 (UTC), we will install a new version (0.98.6) of
the BGP routing software (Quagga) on our remote route collector (RRC)
connected to the Vienna Internet Exchange (VIX).
During the maintenance, no routing data will be collected on this RRC
and the looking glass for this RRC may not be available.
Other services, including the looking glass and data collection for the
other RRCs, will not be affected.
This upgrade will include a patch we have written to skip the BGP
keepalives when dumping the raw data files.
Previously, we disabled keepalives everywhere we could, to prevent
polluting the raw data files. However, this can cause difficult issues
with peerings.
If the upgrade causes no problems, we will set all our peerings to use
keepalives a few days after the upgrade. If this works well, we will
perform the same procedure on all our RRCs.
Changing the keepalive settings will not affect the service.
We thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience this
maintenance may cause..
