Dear Colleagues, Just a couple of reminders about the ACM International Conference on Systems for Energy-Efficient Built Environments, Cities, and Transportation (ACM BuildSys). The conference will be held Nov. 13-14 in New York City, NY, USA. General Reminders - Buildsys is ranked A by the Core conference ranking system. - This year, a subset of the best papers in the ACM Buildsys proceedings will be fast tracked to the ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks with minor revisions, upon author’s agreement. Call for Papers Reminders - Other than the Regular papers (10 pages) and Notes papers (4 pages), this year we will also have abstract only papers (2 pages), where the presentation will include a very short oral and an optional poster presentation. Dear colleagues, When withdrawing an IP prefix from the Internet, an origin network sends BGP withdraw messages, which are expected to propagate to all BGP routers that hold an entry for that IP prefix in their routing table. Yet network operators occasionally report issues where routers maintain routes to IP prefixes withdrawn by their origin network - BGP zombies. The Doctoral Colloquium will be structured as a series of short presentations by the students followed by individual discussions, feedback, and advice from the panel. Students with the most inspiring topics will also be invited to present a poster during the main conference to leverage further interaction with BuildSys attendees. Current PhD students in the early stages of their career are encouraged to submit a 2-page research summary describing the work in progress and including a 100-word abstract. Things to consider for inclusion in the research summary might be: the expected contribution to the field; the original idea or thesis statement; the problem domain and the specific problem addressed; a brief overview of related work; the methodological approach; research carried out and results so far. The abstract should also include a one-paragraph biography of the student, including the names and affiliations of the research advisor(s), and expected date of dissertation submission. The student should be the sole author, although contributions of the advisor and others should be acknowledged. The Doctoral Colloquium committee will review submissions to ensure quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in person to the Doctoral Colloquium. There will be no separate registration fee for the Doctoral Colloquium. Route object creation authorization

Hi, it looks like "things happened while I wasn't watching"... I've just had a run-in with the route object authorization rules as presently implemented in the RIPE database. I found the following flow chart documenting the authorization procedure: https://www.ripe.net/support/training/material/Routing-Security-Training-Co… which is referenced from https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/support/managing-route-objects-… The question I have is this: What is the policy reason for having a pre-existing route object play any role in authenticating the creation of a new route object, so that it in effect overrides any mnt-routes: fields of the corresponding inetnum object for the address space holder? When a customer who has his own address space and controls his own inetnum object, but lets his current ISP originate the route with the ISP's ASN as origin, but wants to move to another ISP, given the current rules, the current ISP is able to hold the customer hostage by refusing to create a new route object with a different ASN as origin. I would not have thought it was RIPE's role to raise and enforce such a barrier? I also can't quite comprehend why a route object would need the "mnt-routes" or "mnt-lower" attributes -- in an inetnum object I can understand the semantics of those, but in a route?
