This is an auto-generated mail on Wed Nov 9 21:10:01 MET 1994
As stated above this is auto-generated so it is not checked before it leaves
my workstation.
This is a list of the "Top 20" players who if CIDRizing at the AS level
could make a significant gain in the size of Internet routing tables. This
may be an over-estimation but it is hoped that this can act as an incentive
for the "Top 20" and others to look at their CIDR capability.
This report is available as:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Top-20.09Nov94
The current (and of course this one today) report is always accessible as:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Top-20
A full summary of all the ASes seen in the Internet can be seen by
looking in:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/AS*
Please also find a summary of the last weeks changes in terms of withdrawn and
added routes. Please note that this is only a snapshot but does some indication
of ASes participating in CIDR.
More information can be found in:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Delta.*
Also, for a short time this gives details of any possibly interesting
aggregates currently seen in the routing. Interesting here means not a
aggregate made as a set of classful routes.
This a daily snapshot of changes in classfull routes being withdrawn and added.
the deltas are calculated over a rolling 7 day period. Please bear in mind this
is purely a "snapshot" and a large flucuation could be caused by a connectivity
problem for example. However, this does give some indication of service
providers that are moving to classless routing.

is purely a "snapshot" and a large flucuation could be caused by a connectivity
problem for example. However, this does give some indication of service
providers that are moving to classless routing.

This is an auto-generated mail on Wed Oct 26 21:10:01 MET 1994
As stated above this is auto-generated so it is not checked before it leaves
my workstation.
This is a list of the "Top 20" players who if CIDRizing at the AS level
could make a significant gain in the size of Internet routing tables. This
may be an over-estimation but it is hoped that this can act as an incentive
for the "Top 20" and others to look at their CIDR capability.
This report is available as:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Top-20.26Oct94

This is an auto-generated mail on Wed Oct 19 21:10:00 MET 1994
As stated above this is auto-generated so it is not checked before it leaves
my workstation.
This is a list of the "Top 20" players who if CIDRizing at the AS level
could make a significant gain in the size of Internet routing tables. This
may be an over-estimation but it is hoped that this can act as an incentive
for the "Top 20" and others to look at their CIDR capability.
This report is available as:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Top-20.19Oct94

You're quite right; thanks for raising this.
The RA staff is currently concentrating on writing tools to generate
router configuration files from RIPE-181 policy and route descriptions.
The first of these tools will be in active production usage within a
few weeks. We have several beta-test sites, but I would be interested
in talking to anyone else who has an interest in these tools.
As part of this tool development, the RA project has written the following:
- A RIPE-181 information server (in Perl-5) which returns information
in a form that is handy for policy analysis and router configuration
generation.
- A RIPE-181 policy parser (in C++ and bison) which converts policy
expressions to any of several forms, including parse trees or
net lists.
- An early "View Analysis" program (in Perl-4), which compares and
processes RIPE-181 policy descriptions for inclusion in a Route Server.
- Dumps of most of the data which is in the PRDB into RIPE-181 format
(available via whois -h rrdb.merit.edu)
Our hope is that these pieces can form a platform for a large range of
analysis tools in the future. AS-topology "tree walkers", for
instance, should be fairly easy to write based on the output of the
parser. All this code and the tools built from it will be publicly
and freely available, (though copyrighted).
The RA staff has talked some about further analysis tools, but we're
pretty busy rolling out the Config Generators and updating the Routing
Registry to use RIPE-181 at the moment, including picking up the great
new code release from RIPE!
We, too, would like to share development and avoid duplication of
effort in the production of new tools.

Hi,
again, here is a new route flap report. The villains from the
top of the previous report have apparently fixed their problem,
but a few ASes again manage to get the dubious position at the
top of the list with more than 20.000 route flaps in the 24 hours
from Oct 12 03:05 GMT to Oct 13 03:05 GMT.
Again I would like to draw to your attention the fact that some
destinations are apparently being originated by more than one AS.
These show up in the report with more then one origin. I was
under the impression that thsi is an illegal or highly
undesireable configuration; I would still like to hear some
comments on this issue.

Legend:
"Origin(s)" are the AS or ASes seen as "origin" of routing updates
(essentially the last element in the logged path).
"flaps" is the sum of "retr" and the number of times the route was
updated (e.g. new path)
"retr" is the number of times a route was withdrawn (retracted)
"unrch" is the number of withdrawals which caused loss of
connectivity for a destination
"dests" is the number of destinations involved in route flaps
"AS description" was what the RIPE database told me last time I
looked up the AS descriptions or AS names.
Excluded from this picture are any routes involving as-sets
(there are a number of routing flaps involving them as well, I'll
hopefully get some time to analyzing them separately sometime
later...).
Attached below you will find a more detailed report showing the
number of times each individual path was announced for each of the
entries on the "top 20" list, I can also easily (on request) produce
a "per-network" report for any given AS.

- Havard

Dear all,
I am pleased to say that the first step of the RIPE database
transition has been succesfully completed yesterday. Up till now, one
minor and one major bug have been found and fixed and the database
seems stable.
Those who daily ftp the ripe database from ftp.ripe.net may have
found that it was not there this morning. This was a simple typo in
one of my scripts and has been fixed. The ftpable files (the complete
database in ripe/dbase/ripe.db and the split versions in
ripe/dbase/split) are currently generated at around 5:30 (AM for the
US folks ;-) Dutch time, which is currently UTC+1. All database files
ara available as uncompressed and compressed (both normal compress and
gzip) versions. The generation time can be changed if you think there
is a need (earlier, not later).
Those who run a secondary copy of the database may find that the
latest ftpable database takes much longer to index. This is because
the database now includes large provider blocks, and the old software
is not good at handling large blocks. The current plan is to have a
beta release of the software (with some documentation on the changes)
ready this weekend, so you can pick up this software and use it to
index the RIPE database. This version will have all of the classless
and other features as per the database transition plan (T1).
As far as conflicts/problems in the guardian files are concerned, most
of them have been resolved. There are some 15 guardian files left with
problems. These guardians will be approached to correct these
problems.
If you have questions/comments/bugs, please report to me personally,
or to any of the above lists if you think they are interesting for a
larger audience.
Regards,
-Marten

Huh? Your nets still could originate in a single AS and as-paths
should look like

This is an auto-generated mail on Wed Oct 12 21:10:01 MET 1994
As stated above this is auto-generated so it is not checked before it leaves
my workstation.
This is a list of the "Top 20" players who if CIDRizing at the AS level
could make a significant gain in the size of Internet routing tables. This
may be an over-estimation but it is hoped that this can act as an incentive
for the "Top 20" and others to look at their CIDR capability.
This report is available as:
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/cidr/stats/Top-20.12Oct94
