Dear group, We have been given the opportunity to organise a 30 minute Routing Working Group session at the virtual RIPE 80 meeting. Please read https://ripe80.ripe.net/attend/how-to-participate/ carefully, this virtual meeting will not be as simple as just showing up in person. The expectation is that people register beforehand in order to participate via the Zoom platform. Dear colleagues, With RPKI experiencing a huge growth in its deployment and becoming a key part in the operations of the Internet, we have been investing significant amount of resources in making its infrastructure resilient, secure, and highly available. Recent outages have raised concerns about the maturity level of this relatively new technology and we have taken these incidents very seriously. We are now in the process of making long-term, significant improvements to our technical infrastructure, operational procedures, and software development processes to meet the growing expectations of the technical community worldwide. Greetings all, I know that all is not right with the world right now, and that most of you, like me, have much more pressing things on your minds right now, but someone just sent me the following link and I cannot exactly ignore it: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/may-2020/confirmed-ca… I would like to call everyone's attention to the last of the three candidates who have, it seems, "qualified" as candidates for open seats of the RIPE NCC Executive Board. As I have already said, I know that things are bad in the world right now, but I must ask this question: Is there really no one other than these three candidates who is willing and/or able to stand for the three open seats on the RIPE NCC Executive board... three open seats that will be voted on at the next general meeting, 13-15 May 2020 ? If not, then it seems that RIPE NCC will soon be following in the new tradition, established first by AFRINIC only last year, of placing well and widely known crooks on it board. Subject: RPKI ROA Deletion: Post-mortem

Dear colleagues, After our accidental deletion of RPKI ROAs on Wednesday evening, we have a post-mortem report to share with the working group. Following an update to our internal registry software on 1 April at 18:16 (UTC+2), 2,669 ROAs were deleted from Provider Independent (PI) address assignments. This was caused by our registry software classifying these assignments as not-certifiable. From our logs, we can confirm that these blocks never left the RIPE Registry, and within 15 minutes the registry was back to normal. However, by that time the ROAs had already been deleted and could not be restored without intervention from our engineers. Affected users with alerts set up in the LIR Portal received a notification email on 31 March at 22:23, stating that their ROAs were missing. Some of these users emailed our Customer Service Department to ask why their ROAs had been deleted. As this was outside of office hours, our staff did not discover the issue until the next morning. Our engineers were able to reinstate all of the missing ROAs by 13:15 on 2 April. We then informed our membership via ncc-announce and notified the affected users directly. We have since implemented stricter checks on both our registry and RPKI software. We are also investigating whether any of these PI assignments suffered from route-leaks or hijacks after their ROAs were deleted. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again in the future. NTT/AS2914 enabled RPKI OV 'invalid = reject' EBGP policies

Dear Routing WG, Exciting news! Today NTT's Global IP Network (AS 2914) enabled RPKI based BGP Origin Validation on virtually all EBGP sessions, both customer and peering edge. This change positively impacts the Internet routing system. The use of RPKI technology is a critical component in our efforts to improve Internet routing stability and reduce the negative impact of misconfigurations or malicious attacks. RPKI Invalid route announcements are now rejected in NTT EBGP ingress policies. A nice side effect: peerlock AS_PATH filters are incredibly effective when combined with RPKI OV. For NTT, this is the result of a multiyear project, which included outreach, education, collaboration with industry partners, and production of open source software shared among colleagues in the industry. Shout out to Louis & team (Cloudflare) for the open source GoRTR software and the OpenBSD project for rpki-client(8). I hope some take this news as encouragement to consider RPKI OV "invalid == reject"-policies as safe to deploy in their own BGP environments too. :-) Kind regards, Job
