HTTP 404 Errors for rrdp.ripe.net

Dear colleagues, This morning, 12 September 2022, during scheduled maintenance, the state of rrdp.ripe.net was inconsistent between 09:35 and 09:50 UTC. After becoming aware of a potential issue, we switched to secondary RRDP infrastructure before starting our investigation, mitigating the problem. During the incident, the RRDP repository https://rrdp.ripe.net/notification.xml referred to files that were not available, and 3480 requests resulted in a 404 response out of more than 10.97k requests (lower bound, excludes traffic after failover). According to our logs and external monitoring, the rsync service at rsync://rpki.ripe.net was fully available during this period. The alert we received indicated that notification.xml was missing while the delta/snapshot files were unavailable, which delayed our response to the incident. As an immediate action, we have already started making necessary changes to improve our alerting. We will continue investigating the root cause and focus on possible race conditions during the shutdown of the publication server (which could have happened during patching). RPKI Service Criticality Questionnaire

Dear all, RIPE NCC has asked the Routing WG Chairs to facilitate a working group conversation on framing RIPE NCC's RPKI services subcomponents in terms of criticality. At the bottom of this email is a form that focusses on three components: confidentiality, integrity and availability. Each component is split into three questions (a, b, and c), a total of 9 questions are being put forward to the working group. We envision this process to be a public consultation: WG participants can submit (free-form) responses, and also chime in by replying to each other's responses; hopefully bringing us to a degree of consensus in the coming weeks. I believe this is an unique opportunity to help RIPE NCC! Investing our time - in turn - will help ourselves rely on and integrate RIPE NCC's RPKI services in our production environments. Notice of Upcoming Test of RPKI Infrastructure

ARIN remains committed to providing high availability services to organizations that rely on our products, especially the critical RPKI infrastructure operated by ARIN. We also want to ensure that ARIN and the greater RPKI community are prepared in the unlikely event that access to ARIN’s RPKI repository becomes unavailable. We encourage operators utilizing ARIN’s RPKI repository data to follow the best practices as described in RFC 7115 / BCP 185 – specifically falling back to routing based on unvalidated announcements (i.e. NotFound validity state) in the absence of RPKI data availability. In July of 2021, ARIN removed external access to repository services to exercise Relying Party software resilience. During the month of September, ARIN will be testing the robustness of RPKI infrastructure against various failure modes. This test will include a 60-minute window where ARIN’s RPKI repository services (RRDP & rsync) will be made unavailable. ARIN recommends all organizations review their RPKI deployments in preparation for this test. ARIN thanks you for your understanding as we take the necessary steps to keep our RPKI infrastructure running at peak performance, as expected by those who have embraced RPKI as a component to enhancing routing security.
