It's not about the TLD itself but rather about the Registry that manages the TLD. Ironically, the nonprofit TLDs you suggest (.ngo, .ong, .foundation, …) are all managed by PIR, the same US-based registry that also manages .org. So, no luck, I guess … Cheers -Andi
