Dear RIPE NCC members, This is a special edition ahead of RIPE 85, which takes place next week from 24-28 October. Alongside the RIPE Meeting, we will also have our RIPE NCC General Meeting on Wednesday, 26 October. In the first half, there will be updates on the ASO AC, a RIPE NCC policy update and a policy proposal on removing mandatory IPv4 PA assignment registration in the RIPE Database. Dear RIPE NCC Members, We invite you to try out the new RIPE NCC Translations Wiki. We have translated eight RIPE NCC topics into six languages - Arabic, Farsi, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. We are always trying to lower the barriers to participate and we’re eager to find ways to support members across our service region. This includes increasing our translated information for members. Go to the wiki: https://translated.ripe.net/ The RIPE NCC Translations Wiki is built using MediaWiki, an open source platform that accommodates translations of texts. This is a starting point, and we would like to create more translations of topics that are of interest to you. And longer term, we will look to incorporate this content on www.ripe.net once our CMS allows us to better provide for translated materials. The texts have been translated by external translators and reviewed internally at the RIPE NCC. [news] 160th RIPE NCC Executive Board Meeting - Summary Notes

Dear RIPE NCC members, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 160th Meeting on 26 September 2022, and the minutes from the meeting are now available. Minutes of the 160th Meeting: https://www.ripe.net/about-us/executive-board/minutes/2022/minutes-160th-ex… The Executive Board publishes the minutes of its meetings so that the workings of the Board and the decisions it makes are transparent to the membership that it represents. The following is a summary of the main items from the meetings. Further details are available in the minutes. ----------------------- Main Items ----------------------- - I reported on executive team developments and leadership training, the RIPE NCC Days Tashkent meeting, objectives and developing OKRs, Integrated Risk Management and the RIPE NCC Status Page - The Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2023 was reviewed and approved by the Board ahead of the meeting - Fergal Cunningham shared the draft agenda for the RIPE NCC General Meeting in October 2022. The Board approved the draft Agenda for publication - Fergal Cunningham continued to report on the outcome of looking into other electronic voting vendors. The Board agreed to move forward with a new system and noted that some changes will need to be implemented so the new voting system meets the requirements of the RIPE NCC - Athina Fragkouli explained the proposed amendments to the Articles of Association. The Board discussed the amendments and agreed to propose the three sets of amendments for adoption by the General Meeting - Athina shared a legal analysis of introducing requirements for submitting notarised documents and apostilles, explaining the benefits and challenges. Athina agreed to do a full analysis of which documents would need notarisation and apostilles - Athina then recommended amendments following a review of the Standard Service Agreement and LIR Account Agreement by the legal team. The Board agreed with the suggestions and asked Athina to finalise the work - RIPE Chair, Mirjam Kühne shared her report on the latest developments in the RIPE community, including moderation of the ripe-list, the RIPE NCC’s impact analysis for the open policy proposal in the RIPE Database Working Group, an update on the Code of Conduct Task Force and preparations for the upcoming RIPE 85 meeting - Razvan Oprea presented the costs, conditions and consequences of moving different services to the cloud. Storage on premise was also discussed to make a comparison of the costs. The Board also discussed the storage of historical data for RIS and RIPE Atlas - Felipe Victolla Silveira presented on a new service being developed called Publish in Parent, which allows RIPE NCC members and End Users who run Delegated CA to publish their RPKI-signed objects in the RIPE NCC infrastructure ---------------------------- Resolutions Adopted ---------------------------- The RIPE NCC Executive Board approves the minutes of EB#159. The RIPE NCC Executive Board approves the publication of the Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2023. The RIPE NCC Executive Board approves the publication of the draft agenda for the RIPE NCC General Meeting in October 2022. The RIPE NCC Executive Board approves the proposed amendments to the RIPE NCC Articles of Association and instructs the Managing Director to prepare the relevant resolutions for the adoption of the proposed amendment by the next General Meeting. We’re eager to find ways to make it easier for you to engage with us and one another, and by launching this new forum, we hope to lower the barriers to participation. Go straight to the forum: https://forum.ripe.net The RIPE NCC Forum is built using Discourse, an open source platform and it is open to all. The forum is read-only for anyone who does not create an account. We’ve shared more details about the ideas and technology behind the forum in this RIPE Labs article: https://labs.ripe.net/author/ulka_athale_1/the-new-ripe-ncc-forum-talk-to-u… Over the years, we’ve heard many of you ask us for a forum, and for easier ways to stay connected with each other. We hope this forum is a step in the right direction. Please keep in mind that the mailing lists remain the official feedback mechanism to the RIPE NCC Executive Board and management, and all policy proposal discussions should still take place on the relevant mailing list. By adding a forum, we would like to create room for more conversations or discussions on topics that are of interest to you, like helping you learn how to use our tools or services, or to make it easier to connect with others who might have solutions for issues you face. Trying something new can be a bit daunting, so we’re starting off with the standard features available in Discourse. As we see the use of the forum evolving, we will consider adding more advanced features. For a while now, the existing RIPE Forum (our web interface for the mailing lists) has been displaying a banner announcing that it will be retired soon. This is due to the planned upgrade to Mailman 3, which has significantly improved functionality for searching and browsing mailing lists, making the existing web interface redundant. We will continue to support the old web interface until the upgrade is completed. In the meantime, we hope you will try out our new forum, and tell us what you think. [news] RIPE NCC Executive Board Selects New Chair

Dear colleagues, Ondřej Filip has been appointed Chair of the RIPE NCC Executive Board following Christian Kaufmann’s decision to step down as Chairman. Ondřej will serve as Chair from 1 September. He has served on the Board for three years and as Treasurer since 2020. Over the course of his career, he has served on the boards of many Internet-related bodies and has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Christian, who has served as Chairman for four years and as a Board member since 2011, is officially stepping down in September after being selected to serve a three-year term on Seat 10 of the ICANN Board of Directors. To enable a smooth transition, a new Chair has been appointed to allow for a transfer period and Christian will remain a member of the RIPE NCC Executive Board until his term ends in May 2023. With Ondřej’s appointment as Chair, Raymond Jetten will become Treasurer. Piotr Strzyżewski remains as Secretary and Remco van Mook remains as NRO EC representative, while Maria Häll becomes the Community Projects Fund representative. I would like to thank Christian for his work as RIPE NCC Executive Board Chairman and for his time and dedication in serving as a Board member for over a decade. Dear RIPE NCC members, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 159th Meeting from 30 June - 1 July 2022, and the minutes from the meeting are now available. Minutes of the 159th Meeting: https://www.ripe.net/about-us/executive-board/minutes/2022/minutes-159th-ex… The Executive Board publishes the minutes of its meetings so that the workings of the Board and the decisions it makes are transparent to the membership that it represents. The following is a summary of the main items from the meetings. Further details are available in the minutes. ----------------------- Main Items ----------------------- - Hans Petter Holen reported on the organisation structure and executive team developments, leadership training, staff retention, objectives for 2022, external audits to improve the Registry’s governance and the course for sustainability strategy. - Hans Petter Holen asked the Board for direction on the preparations for the Activity Plan and Budget 2023, considering the model for estimating revenue, inflation and cost increases. - At the General Meeting May 2022, the Board was asked if the RIPE NCC could donate to the ‘Keep Ukraine Connected’ initiative. The Board shared that the RIPE NCC does not have the ability to make such a donation at this time since there is no provision in its charter to make humanitarian donations. However, the Board is fully behind other initiatives and fully supports the time and resources of staff and their expertise, as well as taking advantage of the RIPE NCC’s position as an organisation with a global reach. - Athina Fragkouli presented a project proposal to identify a potential corporate structure for the RIPE NCC that is compliant with legal requirements affecting its operations in the RIPE NCC’s service region and mitigates relevant risks. - RIPE Chair Mirjam Kühne shared her report on the latest developments in the RIPE community, including the positive response to the RIPE 84 meeting organisation, preparations for the upcoming RIPE 85 meeting, and an update to the RIPE Policy Development Process (PDP). - Christian Kaufmann has been selected to serve for a three-year term on Seat 10 of the ICANN Board of Directors, and he will not seek re-election for the Board in May 2023. Christian already wanted to distribute the Board Chair's functions to the other members, so there is a transfer period before the start of his term in September 2022. - Fergal Cunningham presented a review of the last General Meeting, the topics brought forward by members and a review of the online voting system. It also resolves to designate Remco van Mook as the NRO EC representative and Maria Häll as the CPF representative. - The RIPE NCC Executive Board resolves to continue the moderation of the members-discuss mailing list that was imposed based on the resolution EB#155-R-01 until July 2023. Dear colleagues, We’re pleased to invite applications for funding from the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund. For the sixth year in a row, the RIPE NCC is committed to support activities and projects for the Good of the Internet. Through the Community Projects Fund, the RIPE NCC will provide up to EUR 250,000 per year to support projects of value to the operation and resilience of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in the Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. The Internet today owes a lot of its success to non-commercial, community-driven work, and this continues to ensure the Internet remains resilient, secure and accessible. If you or your organisation is working on a new or existing project that fits the criteria below, and need some financial support to get it off the ground or keep it going, we want to hear from you! Is your project of benefit to the Internet, particularly the RIPE community? Is your project non-commercial in nature? Do you have a clear project plan and timeline? Some things to keep in mind: - Funding may be used to purchase equipment, but this cannot be the sole expenditure - Funding cannot be used for humanitarian aid, donations, or to encourage political reform - Funding cannot be used to provide scholarships or cover tuition fees - Funding cannot be used to support any form of commercial activity The call for applicants will remain open until 23:59 (UTC), Sunday 7 August 2022. Dear colleagues, We are planning to carry out maintenance work on Wednesday 1 and 8 June which will affect some of our services. On Wednesday, 1 June 2022 between 16:10 and 16:40 (UTC), we will carry out planned maintenance on the LIR Portal. During this time, the LIR Portal will be unavailable. On Wednesday, 8 June 2022 between 15:00 and 17:00 (UTC), we will upgrade some of our main database servers. During this period, RIPE NCC Access, the LIR Portal, the RPKI Dashboard and their APIs will be unavailable. Other services that depend on the above mentioned services may also have degraded functionality, e.g. RIPE Database updates, RIPEstat, RIPE Atlas, RIPE NCC Academy. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC General Meeting May 2022 took place from 18-20 May 2022. A total of 1,379 members cast their votes on three resolutions and in the Executive Board election. Not all members cast votes in all ballots. The following resolutions were approved by the General Meeting: Resolution 1: "The General Meeting adopts the RIPE NCC Financial Report 2021." Resolution 2: "The General Meeting discharges the Executive Board with regard to its actions as they appear from the Annual Report 2021 and Financial Report 2021." Resolution 3: "The General Meeting adopts the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2023."
