Dear RIPE NCC members, The RIPE NCC is currently preparing the invoicing for 2018. Below are the latest updates on our planning and implementation. Redistribution of Surplus 2017 At the RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2017, the membership approved the redistribution of the excess contribution paid in 2017. The amount to be redistributed per member will be calculated at the end of December 2017. This will be marked as a discount on your invoice for 2018. Billing 2018 The billing procedure and fee schedule 2018 is now online: https://www.ripe.net/participate/member-support/payment/billing-procedure-a… In early January 2018, RIPE NCC Members will receive an annual account statement for each LIR account they hold. This statement will provide an overview of the total fee due in 2018 including the redistribution of surplus 2017 marked as a discount. Charges for Assignments and Registrations You can now view a specification of the independent Internet number resource assignments and legacy Internet resource registrations that are charged for 2018. [news] Aligning End User and LIR Resource Transfers

Dear colleagues, We will soon be changing the way that transfers of End User resources are handled in the LIR Portal, by applying the same approach that is already in place for transfers of LIR resources. This is part of our work to make updating the RIPE Registry more user-friendly and secure. Once the change has been implemented, only the sponsoring LIR will be able to initiate a transfer of End User resources. This will allow automated checks to see that the resources are eligible to be transferred, and prevent typos or multiple requests being submitted for the same resources. It will also make the process more efficient on our end. Dear Colleagues, Today, the RIPE NCC launches its new ticketing system. There is a RIPE Labs article that explains the background behind this change at: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/AlexBand/ticketing-and-document-management-at… This change will mostly impact RIPE NCC staff and will not change how you deal with the RIPE NCC. You should still make requests for resources, transfers, company name changes, etc. through your LIR account via my.ripe.net. All your questions and reports can be channeled through our new contact form, which combines the old contact and report form functionality. The new form also presents suggested content to users that can help to provide them with useful information. The form is available at: https://www.ripe.net/contact-form Submissions made through the form will be ticketised and all documentation will be stored separately and securely in the RIPE NCC's Document Management System. Please reply to the emails you receive to ensure your ticket is updated. You should add your replies to tickets at the top of your email and not reply "in line". There were 483 people in attendance from 59 countries, including a sizeable jump in the number of first-time attendees (36%)! Notable highlights of the meeting week included the formation of a new Internet of Things Working Group and the very first "Women in Tech" lunch featuring presentations from women working in the Middle East region. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) was held from 24-26 October 2017 adjacent to the RIPE 75 Meeting in Dubai. There were 103 attendees, including RIPE NCC staff and observers from the other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). The webcast from the meeting is archived at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/october-2017/webstream There were three resolutions to be voted on at the General Meeting. The results of the voting on the resolutions are as follows: Resolution 1 - The General Meeting approves the redistribution of the excess contribution paid in 2017 by redistributing the RIPE NCC 2017 surplus to the membership in 2018. Yes – 1,037 No - 33 Abstain - 7 The resolution passed. Resolution 2 - The General Meeting adopts the amendments to the RIPE NCC Conflict Arbitration Procedure. Yes - 847 No - 70 Abstain - 137 The resolution passed. Resolution 3 - The General Meeting adopts the amendments to the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. Hello, For more than 25 years, the RIPE NCC has been supporting activities and projects for the “Good of the Internet”. Community-driven, non-commercial work has been fundamental to the success of the Internet from its earliest days, and continues to play an important role in making the Internet resilient, secure and accessible for everyone. Under the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund, the RIPE NCC will provide up to EUR 250,000 per year to support projects of value to the operation and resilience of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in the Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. Apply now to get your project funded! If you or your organisation is working on a new or existing project that fits the criteria below, and need some financial support to get it off the ground or keep it going, we want to hear from you! Is your project of benefit to the Internet, particularly the RIPE community? Is your project non-commercial in nature? Do you have a clear project plan and timeline? With this release it will no longer be possible to add “abuse mailbox:” to objects other than ROLE objects that are referenced through “abuse-c:”. We will clean up existing other occurrences of “abuse mailbox:” on 30 October, and you will receive a notification with an explanation about this update if any of your objects are affected. You do not need to take any action because of this, but if you want to verify or change your abuse contact information you can do so using our web interface. [news] RIPE NCC IoT Roundtable Meeting in Leeds

Dear all, The RIPE IoT Roundtable Meeting organised by the RIPE NCC took place on 21 September 2017 in Leeds and was attended by 30 community members. Here are the main points that were discussed at the meeting: - Vendors and retailers are unlikely to follow attempts at standardisation. A trusted IoT label might work, but not for low-margin/low-cost devices. - Some CPE ports should be open for advanced users only. The RIPE community could help by documenting some of the risk factors and fall-back mechanisms around and behind CPE. When blocking ports is not possible, manufacturers have the ultimate responsibility. - IoT poses a safety issue. Regulation might not be the ideal approach in dealing with this, as it would take time to implement and would increase the entry burden for starters. In the meantime, providers should step up to help minimise risks. - Assigning liability and working out who the data controller is will be a challenge. Insurance will take time to catch up. - There was strong support for a discussion on the creation of an IoT Working Group at RIPE 75. [news] New Trust Anchor and RPKI Structure

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC is in the process of transitioning from the current RPKI Trust Anchor arrangement to a new configuration which was agreed to among the RIRs and announced by the NRO: https://www.nro.net/regional-internet-registries-are-preparing-to-deploy-al… In this new configuration, the RIPE NCC will use an "all resources" Trust Anchor to issue a certificate for its own regional resources (IP and ASNs) only that will be used to issue certificates to its members for their holdings. The RIPE NCC will migrate to the new structure on Thursday, 28 September. What do you need to do? If you are using the hosted RPKI services, you do not need to take any action. However, the migration will require extensive re-signing to be done by our systems and this takes considerable time. We will not be able to process changes to Route Origin Authorisation (ROA) configurations during this migration and we will therefore have to turn off the RPKI user interface during this maintenance. This will take place on Thursday from 9:00 to 17:00 UTC+2. If you are using relying-party software, such as the Dragon Research Labs RPKI Toolkit(1) or the RIPE NCC RPKI Validator(2), no action will be needed. We will continue to use the same Trust Anchor so you do not need to update your Trust Anchor Locator (TAL). We will ensure that the repository remains available during the migration. We will make sure that all appropriate ROAs are re-created under the new structure before switching over the repository. [news] Final Reminder: Call for Nominations to the NRO NC

Dear colleagues, This is a final reminder of the call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Wilfried Woeber, who was appointed to the NRO NC by the RIPE NCC Executive Board on 7 November 2014, ends on 31 December 2017. The RIPE NCC Executive Board will select one representative from the nominees to serve a three-year term on the NRO NC beginning 1 January 2018. The decision of the Executive Board will be announced at the RIPE 75 Meeting, which will be held in Dubai from 22-26 October 2017. The deadline for nominations is 22 September 2017. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Other individuals may express support for nominated individuals by emailing <nominations(a)ripe.net>. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 25 September 2017.
