Over 3,500 people responded to the survey, which is by far the highest number of responses we have received for any of our large-scale surveys. We would like to thank all those who participated - we are sure the feedback will prove invaluable as the RIPE NCC looks to improve its services and form its strategies based on the wishes of the RIPE NCC membership and the Internet community. Next Steps ---------- Over the next three months, the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) will analyse the results of the survey. [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC receives a lot of inquiries from people dealing with network abuse, such as spamming, hacking and phishing. While we have several tools available to help victims of network abuse find appropriate contact information, in addition to FAQs and information about the Anti-Abuse Working Group, all of this information was previously scattered across the RIPE NCC website in different places and could be difficult to find. We're happy to announce that we have created a dedicated page about network abuse that contains all the information on this topic that the RIPE NCC has available. We've developed this page in cooperation with the Anti-Abuse Working Group Chairs and we hope that this resource will be helpful to anyone dealing with network abuse, regardless of their technical background. You can take the survey at: https://www.ripe.net/survey2013 We ask that you take this very important survey for the RIPE NCC and the RIPE community, and that you encourage your colleagues and contacts to participate. This survey will allow us to assess our services and activities, identify areas for improvement, and help shape our strategy for the coming years. The survey is carried out by the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), which guarantees anonymity for participants and independent assessment of results. It will remain open until 17 June 2013. The results will be presented at the RIPE 67 Meeting in Athens. There are no limits on who can take the survey. RIPE NCC members as well as other interested parties globally are asked to participate. If many people in the same organisation would like to take the survey, they are welcome to do so. The survey conducted in 2011 by the OII provided us with 52 key findings that the RIPE NCC was able to act on, and we hope this survey will provide similarly useful feedback. This is your chance to let the RIPE NCC know exactly what you think and give your suggestions for how the organisation should operate. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. [GM] RIPE NCC General Meeting May 2013

Dear members, The RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) was held 15-16 May 2013 adjacent to the RIPE 66 Meeting in Dublin. There were 134 attendees, excluding RIPE NCC staff and observers from the other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). There were three resolutions to be voted on at the GM. The results of voting on the resolutions were as follows: Resolution 1: The General Meeting adopts the 2012 Financial Report of the RIPE NCC. Yes - 279 No - 3 Abstain - 27 The resolution passed. Resolution 2: The General Meeting discharges the Executive Board with regard to its actions as they appear from the Annual Report 2011. Yes - 244 No - 3 Abstain - 55 The resolution passed. Resolution 3: The General Meeting adopts the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2014. Yes - 276 No - 16 Abstain - 13 The resolution passed. There was also an election to fill two seats on the RIPE NCC Executive Board. The results of the election were as follows: First Seat: James Blessing - 38 Remco van Mook - 69 Nigel Titley - 170 Abstain - 39 Nigel Titley was elected and retained his seat on the Executive Board. Second Seat: James Blessing - 70 Remco van Mook - 199 Abstain - 39 Remco van Mook was elected and retained his seat on the Executive Board. [news] Handling Requests for Information, Orders and Investigations from Law Enforcement

Dear colleagues, Following from the police order the RIPE NCC received in 2011 to "lock" a set of specific registrations in the RIPE Database, the RIPE NCC took the State of the Netherlands to court. The court found the RIPE NCC's claim to be inadmissible on procedural grounds, which meant that our legal argument was never examined and we were unable to gain clarity on our position. You can find more information on this series of events here: https://www.ripe.net/internet-coordination/news/about-ripe-ncc-and-ripe/rip… While we are disappointed with the outcome, the RIPE NCC carefully weighed the options and decided not to appeal the court's decision. We feel that the time and resources needed to pursue this matter further would outweigh the likelihood of a clear result. As a result of this experience, the RIPE NCC has re-affirmed the principles that guide how we will act if presented with similar orders in future. [news] RIRs Submit Remarks to ITU WTPF-13

Dear colleagues, On 29 April 2013, the RIPE NCC, as a sector member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), formally submitted a document to the ITU Secretariat on behalf of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). The document addresses a range of issues that will be discussed at the upcoming ITU World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum 2013 (WTPF-13): https://www.ripe.net/internet-coordination/internet-governance/multi-stakeh… In mid-April, various RIPE community members gave feedback on a draft of this document. It was updated ahead of its official submission and now includes more detailed information to address some of the opinions discussed by the Informal Expert Group (IEG) that was convened in preparation for the WTPF-13. An annex has been added outlining the efforts of the five RIRs to support the deployment of IPv6 and IPv6 capacity building. Representatives of all five RIRs will be present at WTPF-13 and, as always, are available for consultation on any of the points raised in this document, as well as any other aspects of RIR business. Dear colleagues, The nomination period for candidates to the RIPE NCC Executive Board closed on the 24th April. We didn't receive a third nomination, so the Executive Board is nominating a third candidate in accordance with the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. The Board therefore nominates James Blessing to be the third candidate. James is a respected member of the RIPE community and has shown himself to be familiar and engaged with the issues affecting the RIPE NCC membership. We thank James for agreeing to stand for election. The election takes place 15-16 May at the General Meeting (GM) to be held in Dublin. We hope that members will register to attend the meeting if they are in Dublin or will participate remotely via the webcast. Members should also have received invitations to vote electronically, and we urge you to take advantage of opportunity to cast your vote in the elections and on the three resolutions to be voted on. Dear colleagues, The consultation period in which the RIPE NCC put forward three options to the membership for discussion with regards to how they would like us to proceed with the RIPE Database Proxy Service is concluded. The options were: - Make it a member-only service - Keep the service free for now but bound by a contract - Discontinue the service During this consultation period, there were expressions of support for both keeping it as a free service bound by a contract and discontinuing the service. The RIPE NCC Executive Board took the mailing list opinions into account and has decided to continue this service free of charge while requiring that there be a contract in place. The Executive Board reached this decision as there are very low costs associated with this service and they could not see any strong argument to discontinue this service to the community. They agreed that this would be reviewed again in the future, and they plan to do this for all RIPE NCC services and activities. The RIPE NCC will contact the parties currently using the service to ask them to sign a new agreement. Any new parties wanting to use the service can contact the RIPE NCC to sign the agreement. I would like to point out that this service does not affect the openness or accessibility of the RIPE Database in any way. The information is open and accessible to everyone at all times.
