[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, This is a reminder that the RIPE NCC has issued a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number council (NC). The term of Dave Wilson, who was elected to the NRO NC in January 2007, ends on 31 December 2009. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during a Plenary session at the RIPE 59 Meeting to be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 5-9 October 2009. All members of the Internet community who are present at the Plenary session may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 9 September 2009. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. Please send your nominations to by 23:00 UTC on 9 September 2009. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 11 September 2009. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2009 - Registration Open

Dear RIPE NCC member, The RIPE NCC Executive Board is pleased to invite you to the RIPE NCC Autumn General Meeting (GM) 2009. The GM will be held on Wednesday, 7 October 2009 from 16:00-19:00. It will be held adjacent to the RIPE 59 Meeting, which takes place from 5-9 October 2009 at the Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal. The GM will consist of two parts: - The RIPE NCC Services Working Group will begin at 16:00 and will include the presentation of the Report from the RIPE NCC. This part of the GM is open to everyone. - The second part of the GM follows immediately after and is only open to RIPE NCC members who have registered for the GM. This part of the meeting is the forum where RIPE NCC members can discuss the operations and activities of the RIPE NCC and exercise their voting rights. Voting Options at General Meetings

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board has been evaluating various options regarding the proposal to change the voting procedure currently used to elect the Executive Board during General Meetings. Several of these options were presented at the General Meeting in May 2009. Please refer to this presentation for more details: http://www.ripe.net/membership/gm/gm-may2009/presentations/ After discussion during this meeting, there was no clear consensus on how to proceed. The minutes of the General Meeting are available at: http://www.ripe.net/membership/gm/gm-may2009/minutes.html The Executive Board concluded that in order to widen participation in elections, it will propose to allow voting by postal ballot for Executive Board elections. This addition to the voting process will not require a major effort or a major investment from the RIPE NCC. The Executive Board will monitor whether this enhancement leads to increased participation and based on these outcomes will decide on further steps. Membership discussion of the proposed changes to voting options for General Meetings can take place at <members-discuss(a)ripe.net>. End Users of "orphaned" Internet number resources will have the choice to either sign a contract with a sponsoring LIR or with the RIPE NCC. However, "Contractual Requirements for Provider Independent Resource Holders in the RIPE NCC Service Region" states: "The preferred model of the RIPE community is for End Users to have a contractual relationship with a sponsoring LIR instead of directly with the RIPE NCC." As you mention, resources of End Users who do not have a contract in place with an LIR or with the RIPE NCC by 31 December 2009 will be considered "orphaned". The RIPE NCC will start contacting the End Users of those independent Internet number resources in 2010 (Phase 3 of the policy implementation), asking them to sign a contract either with a sponsoring LIR or with the RIPE NCC. The exact timeline will depend on the number of "orphaned" resources. We are currently preparing different scenarios based on current statistics. IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey Closed

Automatic Disabling of Mailing List Subscriptions

Dear Colleagues, As you may be aware, a recent post to the RIPE NCC Services Working Group mailing list mentioned that some subscribers are experiencing automatic disabling of their mailing list subscriptions. You can read this message at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/maillists/archives/ncc-services-wg/2009/msg00070.h… The current mailing list policy states that after five messages from the list mail server have bounced back from a mailbox, the email address is automatically set to 'disabled'.
