database update problem

Dear Colleagues, At the moment, one out of the two database update queues is not working correctly. It is not processing updates sent to <auto-dbm(a)ripe.net>. This has been a problem since Saturday, 6 August 2005. The problem was caused by a single spam message which stopped the dbupdate process. We are working on a solution to process all the queued statements; We expect everything to work as normal within the next hour. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Status of 'org' attribute

[appologies for cross-posting this] Hi all, Maybe I missed out on something, but accoording to various templates in the ripe-databese, the org-attribute is optional. Apparently the hostmaster mailrobot things otherwise and refuses requests with an error because of the org-attribute not being present. I just ran into it on a ASN request, but I recall having problems before with this. Can anybody tell me who is right, the database template or the robot ? In fact, the database reference (http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/databaseref-manual.html#1.2.3) doesn't list it all. Grtx, MarcoH

A planned power outage tomorrow

Dear Colleagues, We were notified by the energy company that tomorrow, starting from 6 a.m. UTC, there will be a planned power outage in one of the RIPE NCC buildings. We are working now on providing power feeds to the equipment to eliminate any possible disruption of the services. However a risk still exists that we will have to shut down some of the servers, depending on the duration of the outage. We will notify you in such case. DNSSEC deployment on the reverse tree.

Now that the protocol has become available, we plan to implement DNSSEC on our domains in the reverse DNS tree. The deployment of DNSSEC is the second and last phase of the Reverse DNS restructuring project. You can find more information about this project at: http://www.ripe.net/rs/reverse/dnssec/index.html To implement DNSSEC, we propose extending the policy for Policy for Reverse Address Delegation of IPv4 and IPv6 Address Space in the RIPE NCC Service Region. You can find the proposed policy at: http://www.ripe.net/rs/reverse/dnssec/draft-dnssec-policy.html. We welcome your feedback on this poposal before 1 August 2005. Please send your comments to the DNS Working Group Mailing List. We are also introducing two new procedures: "DNSSEC Key Maintenance Procedure" http://www.ripe.net/rs/reverse/dnssec/key-maintenance-procedure.html and "Procedure for Requesting DNSSEC Delegations" http://www.ripe.net/rs/reverse/dnssec/registry-procedure.html Your feedback on these drafts is also welcome, again please send this to the DNS Working Group Mailing List. Dear Sir, let me second Mr. Hank Nussbacher's proposal. CESNET, the Czech Republic NREN, had been using the RIPE NCC hostcount data since 1997 for the same purpose. Its use is briefly described in the CESNET 1998 Annual report: http://www.cesnet.cz/doc/zprava1998/kap04.html (unfortunately, only the Czech language version seems to be available now). This data has been extremely useful for us as it helped us find organisations trying to misuse the CESNET IP space. Our access to the raw hostcount data stopped in January 2005 as well.
