Announcement: RIPE NCC General Manager

Dear RIPE NCC Members, It is with great regret that the RIPE NCC Executive Board announces the resignation of Daniel Karrenberg as General Manager of the RIPE NCC effective no later than July 1999. Daniel's motivation to end his responsibilities as General Manager of the RIPE NCC is personal and family related. Daniel wishes to spend more quality time with his family and his wife looks forward to the opportunity of resuming her professional career. The executive Board fully understands and accepts the reasons behind Daniel's decision to vacate his function. The Board will shortly be advertising the position and contracting a professional recruitment organisation to help with the administrative side of finding a suitable replacement. This process is in keeping with the openness and neutrality in which the RIPE NCC operates. The new manager will be selected by the RIPE NCC Executive Board, as the RIPE NCC statutes stipulate. We hope to announce a decision before May. Daniel's absolute commitment to the success of the RIPE NCC over the past seven years is sincerely appreciated by the Board. The Board welcomes his willingness to stay with the RIPE NCC to work on new projects and services. We will work both with him and the new management to define a suitable arrangement. RIPE Region Hostcount for January 1999

Dear All, below is the hostcount for January 1999. The table shows an increase since last month of around 330,000 hosts (or 4,2%) to a total of almost exactly 8,200,000 hosts in the DNS in Europe and surrounding areas. The fr domain shows the highest increase for January with approximately 112,000 hosts more than in December. - More Information - More detailed information on the hostcount can be found at http://www.ripe.net/statistics/hostcount/ The translation of the country codes can be found at ftp://ftp.ripe.net/iso3166-countrycodes - Brief Notes on this Hostcount - The increase for fr is quite noteworthy. Most of the new hosts come from the 84 zones with 1000+ hosts. The subtraction of 1 host in one of the subtotals lines at the end of the table comes from the ly TLD, for which transfers were restricted this month. ly contributed a single host last month.
