It is our pleasure to open registration for the RIPE 36 meeting,
to be held from 16 - 19 May 2000 at: Danubius Thermal Hotel Helia,
in Budapest, Hungary.
* Note that hotel rooms have been blocked for RIPE Meeting attendees at Hotel

On-site registration will open on Tuesday, 16 May 2000.
Please note the following:
- - To avoid wait queues at the registration desk on-site we encourage
pre-payment by credit card. The registration fee for this meeting is
EUR 280.00 (this includes refreshments and lunches) and the dinner fee
is EUR 65.00. However, if payment is received before 5 May 2000, the
pre-payment cut-off date, you will receive a pre-registration discount of
EUR 50.00. Therefore, the fee for attendees paying before the cut-off date
is EUR 230.00 for the meeting and 65.00 EUR for the RIPE dinner event.

Dear All,
below is the hostcount for February 2000.
The table shows an decrease since last month of over 135,000
(or 1.3%) to a total of around 10,680,000 hosts in the DNS
in Europe and surrounding areas.
The -pt- domain shows the highest increase for February with
approximately 30,000 hosts more than in January.

- Brief Notes on this Hostcount -
* the -it- and -se- datafiles were corrupted and the January
date had to be reused
* -co.uk- could not be transferred due to zone transfer
restrictions. Because of this, it was again decided
to use the January data for uk
* for jo and ye, all nameservers at the top level refused
zone transfers, and so these two TLDs were removed from
the count.

* The TLD's 'jo' and 'ye' were included in the count last

at the top level. Their total contibution to the number

Dear colleagues,
At the last RIPE meeting in Amsterdam all the working group chairs -
as far as they had already arrived in Amsterdam on Tuesday evening
(22/02/00) - met each other to discuss some issues regarding the
working groups. We called it the 'Chairman BoF'.
I would like to give a short report from this meeting.
The agenda was:
1. Welcome
2. Additional agenda points
3. Future of the working groups
4. Schedule of the working groups
5. Chairs and back-up chairs
6. Agenda's for the working groups
7. AOB
Here are some bullet points to summarise what we have discussed
* more flexibility regarding times and slots for the agenda
1) provide time-slots of different length in order to
better accommodate longer/shorter wg-sessions.
2) ask how much time the working group chairs think they
really need.
* create a task force within the working groups
1) encourage more input
2) support the working group chairs
3) provide back-up chairs who can organise the
wg-session if necessary.
* make the contact between the chairs and the RIPE NCC more
1) pro-active
2) a RIPE NCC staff member will make minutes of each
wg-session, these minutes will be published on
the web. The chair is free to appoint another scribe.
3) collection of the agenda's: The chair is asked to
provide a preliminary agenda for the next
wg-session in his report for the plenary session.
* make a handbook for the working group chairs and other interested
people containing information on how to run a RIPE
working group.
* have these kind of meeting more often ;-)
