Dear All,
below is the hostcount for December 2001.
The table shows a decrease since last month of over 500,000 (or 3,5%)
to a total of almost 15,650,000 hosts in the DNS in Europe and
surrounding areas.
The pt domain shows the highest increase for December with approximately
67,000 hosts more than in November.

- Brief Notes on this Hostcount -
The large drop in the number of hosts counted for the past month is
caused mainly by decreases in at, it and ru. A lot of zones in those
domains were unfortunately not countable because of AXFR blocks,
which seem to happen more often lately.
For this reason, we are considering to contact the administrators of
blocking nameservers with the request to allow zone transfers to the
hostcount IP address.
- The November, 2001 data for be was reused since no new remote data
was received.
- The November, 2001 data for gr and ir was reused since no new
collection could be done due to an AXFR block.
