RIPE NCC has Approximately Four Million IPv4 Addresses Before Reaching Last /8

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC has now entered phase one of its approach to reaching the last /8. This means that: - As of Tuesday, 4 September, we have approximately one month (or a /10) worth of IPv4 address space (4,134,976 addresses) to distribute before we reach the last /8. - Our IPRAs are now working in pairs to ensure that all requests are dealt with efficiently and to further ensure fairness, consistency and transparency. This means that our response times may be longer than you have previously experienced. You can find the response times for requests for IPv4 address space at: http://www.ripe.net/lir-services/resource-management/tools-for-lirs/reponse… - Our "call back procedure" has changed. We will now call requestors about their ticket only when their ticket is at the front of the request queue. This will ensure that no ticket is handled outside of the order it was received in. - Depending on the availability in the RIPE NCC’s free pool of IPv4 address space, you may receive multiple smaller prefixes that add up to the size of your request. - The quarantine period in place for returned IPv4 address space before it can be re-used will be gradually decreased. In the last days before we reach the last /8, the quarantine period may be reduced to one week or less. This will ensure that there is no IPv4 address space left in the quarantine pool when we start to allocate from the last /8. hello, the RIPE Programme Committee are responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the plenary of RIPE meetings. we are expanding our membership by four additional members to be elected by the community at RIPE65 in Amsterdam, and we have updated the documentation here: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-meetings/pc/composition-and-roles the PC has been functioning well since our formation, but we have found ourselves short-staffed in several ways. we lack representation from several important RIPE communities right now, we do not have a wide range of expertise and experience, and we are reduced to a very small number of people in the case of any PC members taking vacation or otherwise unable to attend PC calls or follow up on speaker requests. please consider standing for a PC position in AMS or nominating a colleague who you believe would be effective in the role. questions to me or to pc(a)ripe.net. cheers, t -- Todd Underwood, for the Programme Committee tmu(a)google.com

The term of Dave Wilson, who was elected to the NRO NC in January 2009, ends on 31 December 2012. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during the Plenary at the RIPE 65 Meeting to be held in Amsterdam from 24-28 September 2012. All members of the Internet community who are present at that Plenary may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 28 August 2012. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. RIPE PC will meet to finalize the Plenary schedule next week to appear in the meeting agenda. If you have not yet submitted a talk and would like to, we suggest you do that in the next couple of days, so then we can evaluate it in our final meeting. If you have submitted a talk but it has a pending status, because you are requested to submit slides or provide further information, please make sure you also get back to us within the next couple of days. NANOG Community, After a great NANOG in Vancouver, BC, the survey results are in from 55 and we are already assembling a world-class program for NANOG 56. The North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) will hold its 56th meeting in Dallas, TX on October 21 - 23, 2012 and join with ARIN on October 24, 2012. Terremark, a Verzion company, will be our host for NANOG 56. The NANOG Program Committee is now seeking proposals for presentations, panels, tutorials, tracks sessions, and keynote materials for the NANOG 56 program. We invite presentations highlighting issues relating to technology already deployed or soon-to-be deployed in the Internet. Vendors are encouraged to work with operators to present real-world deployment experiences with the vendor's products and interoperability.
