RIPE Code of Conduct - Call for volunteers

Dear colleagues, The Diversity Task Force has put a lot of work into updating the current RIPE Code of Conduct. They put together a series of draft documents that were then reviewed by the community. The most recent version 3.0 can be found here: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/ripe-meetings/ripe-meeting-code-o… During the RIPE 80 community plenary, Hans Petter Holen described what he views as the best way forward to finalize the updated RIPE Code of Conduct and we would like to follow the process he laid out during his presentation. The main idea is to split the current draft document into three individual documents and to review each of them separately: 1. The Code of Conduct 2. The selection of the Trusted Contacts or Code of Conduct team 3. Procedures for the team We are now looking for volunteers to finalize this set of documents. During RIPE 80 three community members already offered their help. If you are still interested, please let us know. This of course also applies to anyone who would like to help and has not yet put their name forward. Second call for presentations RIPE 81

Dear colleagues, the first submission round for RIPE 81 is over and there are still plenary and lightning talk slots open. The RIPE Programme Committee will accept new proposals until *27th September 2020*. Lightning talk submission will be possible at least until a week before the meeting, but due to the condensed schedule in the online format we have less slots available than usually. Please note, that all the submissions we already received and did not explicitly accept or reject are still under consideration for the plenary at RIPE 81. Authors of accepted or rejected presentations have been contacted by the PC via the contact address they provided. You can find the CFP for RIPE 81 at https://ripe81.ripe.net/submit-topic/cfp/, for your proposals for plenary session presentations and lightning talks. We also have the possibility to schedule BoFs, but they will happen outside the general meeting plan due to timing constrains. Stepping down as RIPE Chair

I am now stepping down as RIPE Chair and handing over the role to Mirjam Kühne from tomorrow 1 September 2020. Niall O’Reilly will at the same time take on the role as the Vice-chair. It has been a pleasure working for the community as RIPE Chair since I took over from Rob Blokzijl in 2014. But as you all know, I will not go far, but continue to work for the RIPE NCC members and RIPE community in my new role as Managing Director for the RIPE NCC. Rather than waiting for the next RIPE meeting and doing the formal handover there, we think it is better to do the handover now, so we have a clear separation of the RIPE NCC MD and RIPE Chair roles when planning the upcoming RIPE Meeting. This has taken a bit longer than expected because we wanted to put in place proper segregation between the RIPE NCC and RIPE Chair. As RIPE NCC Managing Director, I have signed an agreement with Mirjam terminating her current employment from the RIPE NCC effective from 1 September. At the same time, the RIPE NCC executive board represented by the chair, Cristian Kaufmann and Treasurer Ondrej Filip, with the assistance of RIPE NCC HR Director and external legal advisor, has negotiated and signed a new contract with Mirjam as RIPE Chair for the duration of her RIPE Chair appointment. The contract is compliant with Dutch labour law but also ensuring the independence of the RIPE Chair and referring to the community processes as the only grounds for termination of the position. I believe that this addresses the concern raised regarding the independence of the RIPE Chair. In my time I was dependent on my employer Visma in addition to the travel funding from the RIPE NCC. Rob Blokzijl before me, was dependent on his employer NIKEF until his retirement and after that on the RIPE NCC, both fr travel funding but also remuneration for work for the RIPE NCC. The latter was not known to me until recently and I apologise for making erroneous statements about this in the past. I wish Mirjam Kühne and Niall O’Reilly all the best in their new roles and will work closely with them to hand over the open actions. This will be documented in a blog post on RIPE Labs. The new RIPE Chair Team

Dear colleagues, We are both very pleased to let you know that the necessary preparations have been completed as Hans Petter Holen mentioned in his email and that we are ready to formally take up our responsibilities as the new RIPE Chair team from Tuesday, 1 September. We are eager to serve the RIPE community and ready to listen to what the community has to tell us. We are looking forward to working with the RIPE Programme Committee, the RIPE Working Groups and Task Forces, the RIPE NCC, and with individual members of the RIPE community, so that this community continues and develops as an interesting, relevant, and inclusive “forum for the exchange of technical information and the creation of expertise on IP networking”, as envisaged in the RIPE Terms of Reference (ripe-001). In particular, we look forward to working with Hans Petter both to complete the handover of the responsibilities of the RIPE Chair and in his new role as Managing Director of the RIPE NCC. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hans Petter, both for ourselves and on behalf of the RIPE community, for his excellent leadership as RIPE Chair. His example and that of the founding RIPE Chair, Rob Blokzijl, will continue to be an inspiration to us.
