RIPE NCC to Publish NRO Extended Allocation and Assignment Reports

This message is sent on behalf of the Number Resource Organization (NRO). **** To make sure that the NRO Extended Allocation and Assignment Reports continue to be published to a high standard, the NRO has agreed that this should be managed by one of the RIRs. This will ensure a resilient and well-maintained service and will allow further improvements to be made in the future. The RIPE NCC has agreed to take over this responsibility. You can find the report on the RIR Statistics page on the NRO website: https://www.nro.net/statistics/ While the new file matches the format of the previous one, it will not apply data transformation to the reports that each RIR publishes individually. Improving the process

RIPE 80 At a Glance looks at how registration went in the run up to RIPE 80, gives an overview of key attendee demographics, and shows how people connected to the meeting day by day, session by session. We also provide a comparison with previous meetings and look at the feedback we gathered with the aim of making sure attendees get the very most out of future virtual events. RIPE Chairs Selected

Dear colleagues, The RIPE 2020 NomCom has selected Mirjam Kühne as RIPE Chair and Niall O'Reilly as RIPE Vice Chair. After interviewing all nominees, hearing substantial input from the community and a thorough discussion during three selection meetings all voting members voted to select Mirjam as Chair and eight out of ten voting members voted to select Niall as Vice Chair. The selection was subsequently supported unanimously by all members of the committee. We closely followed the process spelled out in ripe-727 and ripe-728. We regularly paused to confirm that the whole committee was comfortable with the process and its progress. We were able to choose from a set of nominees who are all very capable and well respected in the community. We expect that the community would support any of them as their Chair. Our selection is in no way a negative statement about the nominees we did not select. We selected Mirjam because the input from the community clearly favoured her. She is very widely regarded as someone who listens carefully to everyone and who helps the community to find consensus and move forward. We selected Niall because of the positive input we received about his track record with the community. Mirjam and Niall convinced us that they would work well as a team and complement each other. The RIPE NCC board has confirmed the candidates in accordance with the process set out in ripe-727. The original time line called for a transition from Hans Petter to Mirjam and Niall during RIPE 81 in October. Hans Petter has since resigned as RIPE Chair because he accepted to be the new managing director of the RIPE NCC; he is currently also serving as RIPE Chair ad-interim. In this situation it makes little sense to stick to the original time line. Therefore we suggest that the outgoing and incoming Chairs arrange the transition among themselves as soon as practicable. We plan to publish the NomCom report about this first run of the selection process in September before our term ends at RIPE 81. We expect to make suggestions for improving the process and look forward to the community discussing and deciding the process for the next iteration. We thank everyone who supported the NomCom, especially all nominees and the many members of the community who made time to give us their input. Online discussion: What Does the Digital Services Act Mean for You?

Dear colleagues, The European Commission has announced plans for a new Digital Services Act with the potential to affect many different actors in the Internet industry, covering liability standards for Internet intermediaries, a European system (and regulator) for notice-and-takedown procedures, and the role of online platforms in trading harmful products, among other topics. The European Commission is currently holding an open consultation on the act, which runs until 8 September, in order to solicit feedback from all stakeholders. Webinar Invitation: "Let's Go Virtual!"

Dear colleagues, The COVID-19 era has seen many major Internet community events move fully online (including RIPE 80, many regional and national NOGs, and RIPE 81 later this year). What does that shift means for how Internet communities work and interact, particularly if circumstances require that we continue with this approach beyond the short-term? The RIPE NCC and LINX are co-hosting a webinar next Tuesday 30 June at 15:00 (CEST) entitled "Let’s Go Virtual!”. Nurani Nimpuno and I will moderate the hour-long session, with speakers including Edward McNair, Executive Director of NANOG, Adam Peake, ICANN Global Stakeholder Engagement, and Fergal Cunningham, who’ll speak a bit about the experience of taking RIPE community events fully online. RIPE Working Group Chair Financial Support call for consensus by 15 June 2020

To follow up on the proposal the community plenary at RIPE 80, to provide financial support Working Group (WG) Chairs if needed, I would like community input. The presentation can be seen at 7:45 into the video at https://ripe80.ripe.net/archives/video/383/ In principle, all RIPE Meeting attendees, including RIPE WG Chairs, Programme Committee members and presenters are expected to cover the costs of participating in a RIPE Meeting. However, in exceptional cases, for instance, if a WG would end up with no Chair during a meeting, a WG Chair can ask the RIPE Chair to request financial assistance from the RIPE NCC. This has mostly been limited to waiving the meeting fee, not for travel and accommodation. The matter was discussed at RIPE NCC Executive Board meeting December 2018 after it was brought to the attention of the RIPE NCC Executive Board through one of its members. The board was positive to provide support also for travel and accommodation if needed, and tasked the RIPE Chair trough EB402 tasked to make a draft procedure.
